Amber alert issued for three children

WEST VALLEY CITY — An Amber Alert has been issued after police say a father failed to return his three children to their mother.

Israel Hernandez, 30, recently lost custody of his three children, KSL-TV reports. Police believe the man is driving a maroon Chevrolet Corsica or a black Cadillac Escalade.

The three children, ranging in age from 3 to 6, are believed to be in danger of physical abuse.

Viamore Hernandez Torres, 3, is a 3-foot, 35-pound girl who was last seen wearing a rose colored shirt, black pants and white shoes.

Alisha Hernandez, 6, is 3-foot-6 and 40 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a red and pink shirt and white shorts.

Pablo Hernandez, 4, is 3-foot and 30 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt with white stripes, blue jeans and white shoes.

Israel Hernandez is described as a 5-foot-5 Hispanic male. He may also be with his girlfriend, police said.

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- 3 children are believed in danger of physical abuse.
Police are looking for 31 year old Isreal Hernendez-Torres. He is 5’5”, 155 pounds, with Brown Hair, Brown eyes, both ears are pierced, possible glasses, and he possibly has a mustache and goatee.
He is driving a red Chevy Corsica or a Black Cadilla Escalade. The Plates are unknown.
The children are: female - Xiomara Hernandez-Torres 3 years old, male - Pablo Hernandez 4 years old, and female - Alicia Hernandez 6 years old.
Monday morning at 10 AM the children went with their biological father who doesn’t have custody of them and they have not been returned.
They were at their aunt’s house at 4189 S. 6300 W. in West Valley.

An amber alert has been issued for three young children missing from the West Valley City area. Police believe they were taken by their father and that they are in danger.

Police are looking for 3-year-old Xiomara Hernandez-Torres, 4-year-old Pablo Hernandez and 6-year-old Alicia Hernandez. They are believed to have been taken by their father Israel Hernandez, 30.

Hernandez may be driving a red Chevy Corsica or a black Cadillac Escalade, license plate numbers are not known at this time.

Xiomara Hernandez-Torres is 3 feet tall and 25 lbs. She has black hair brown eyes, she was last seen wearing a rose colored shirt with black pants and white shoes.

Alicia Hernandez is 3’6”, weighs 40 lbs. Her hair is black and she has brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a red and pink shirt with white shorts and pink shoes.

Pablo Hernandez is 3 feet tall and 30 lbs. He has black short hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt with white stripes and blue jeans and white shoes.

The kids have been missing since 10 a.m. Sunday. They were visiting their father and he has not returned them, according to police.

"We received a call around 5 this afternoon, just as a custodial interference. Once the officers got on scene they determined it was a little bit more than that," said Lieutenant Dallin Taylor, West Valley Police.

The man's sister has custody of the children, according to Taylor.

"He lost custody of them sometime this year because of some physical abuse," Taylor said.

Police issued the alert because they believe the children are in danger.

The man is described as 5’5” and 155 lbs. He has brown eyes, and brown hair. He may have a mustache and goatee, both ears are pierced and possibly wearing glasses.

Police believe he may be heading to California or Mexico.

Police have issued an Amber Alert for three children missing from their West Valley home since Sunday That could be heading through St. George.

The children were last seen with their father Israel Hernandez, when he and his girlfriend picked them up for a visit and never returned.

The children are 6-year-old Alicia Hernandez, 4-year-old Pablo Hernandez, and 3-year-old Xiomara Hernandez-Torres.
Again the children were picked up by their father, and his girlfriend at their home in West Valley City on Sunday morning...The couple was to return the children later that evening.

Police believe they could be in one of two vehicles: a maroon Chevy Corsica or a black Cadillac Escalade, and have reason to believe Hernandez may be taking them to California or Mexico. Anyone with information is asked to call the West Valley Police at 801-840-4000.

WEST VALLEY CITY — Investigators had very few clues Wednesday as to the whereabouts of three children police say were taken by their abusive father and his girlfriend.

Xiomara Hernandez-Torres, 3; 4-year-old Pablo Hernandez and 6-year-old Alicia Hernandez were last seen Sunday night when their father, 30-year-old Israel Hernandez, who has no custodial rights to his children, took them during a scheduled visitation. An Amber Alert was issued for the missing children Monday night.

"We're getting a lot of tips, but none of them have grown legs," said West Valley police Capt. Tom McLachlan. "It's getting frustrating for us. Our detectives have been working this thing non-stop, but they're not hitting on anything."

As of Wednesday afternoon, McLachlan said there had been no evidence that Hernandez had used a credit card anywhere, making his footsteps hard to follow.

In 2006, the state gave one of Hernandez's relatives custody of his children because of an-going pattern of physical abuse. The abuse resulted in bruises and bleeding and trips to the doctor's office, according to police.

Hernandez is believed to be on the run with his girlfriend, 32-year-old Marta Torres.

Xiomara Hernandez-Torres is 35 pounds and was last seen wearing a rose-colored shirt, black pants and white shoes.

Alicia Hernandez is 3 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 40 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a red and pink shirt and white shorts.

An Amber Alert for three children missing since Sunday from West Valley City has failed to turn up any solid leads, police said.

A miscommunication with the family resulted in police initially thinking Hernandez had taken the children at 10 p.m. that day. They were reported missing Monday late morning or early afternoon, and the Amber Alert was issued that night.

Is dad taking 3 kids to Mexico?

WEST VALLEY CITY — Police have more evidence that an abusive father investigators say took his three children, whom he has no custodial rights over, may be headed to Mexico.

Investigators searching the home of Israel Hernandez, 30, said they found a note written in Spanish. In the note, believed to be written by Hernandez, he said he felt the system was not treating him fairly and that he was going back to Mexico, said West Valley Police Capt. Tom McLachlan. Police did not say Thursday if the note was addressed to anyone in particular.

Meanwhile, an Amber Alert remained in effect Thursday for Xiomara Hernandez-Torres, 3; Pablo Hernandez, 4; and Alicia Hernandez, 6.

Israel Hernandez had custody of the children taken away from him in 2006 by the state because of a continuing pattern of physical abuse. The children were given to another relative, but he was allowed visitation. Over the years, the relative became lax on allowing him to take the children for a few hours unsupervised. Hernandez took the children Sunday during one of those visits and never returned, McLachlan said.

Police say the case has been extremely frustrating because very few leads have panned out. Detectives are receiving a lot of calls on possible sightings, McLachlan said, but as of Thursday morning, none of them had turned up anything.

Amber Alert for W.V. kids still active

WEST VALLEY CITY -- Police have handed over evidence to the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office to consider possible charges against the father of three young children who are still the subject of an ongoing Amber Alert.

Police believe Israel Hernandez, 30, took his three children, even though he has no custodial rights to them. Xiomara Hernandez-Torres, 3, Pablo Hernandez, 4, and Alicia Hernandez, 6, were last seen Aug. 31 when their father came to pick them up for a weekly visit.

Hernandez lost custody of his children in 2006 because of a continued pattern of physical abuse. They were given to another relative, but he was allowed supervised visits. Over the years, however, police say the relative had become lax about letting Hernandez take the children for a few hours unsupervised.

He is also believed to be on the run with his girlfriend, 32-year-old Marta Torres, according to police.

Prosecutors will consider potential charges of felony custodial interference, said West Valley Police Capt. Tom McLachlan.

Meanwhile, the Amber Alert for the children remained active Thursday, a week and a half after it was issued.

"We want to let people know we're still looking," McLachlan said.

Paul Murphy, with the Attorney General's Office and Utah's Amber Alert coordinator, said during a recent training session on the alert system that there was discussion about the Destiny Norton case and whether the alert was canceled too quickly.

Norton, 5, was kidnapped in front of her Salt Lake house and killed in 2006. An Amber Alert was initially issued, then canceled in favor of an endangered person advisory, but then reissued after more evidence was uncovered.

"When the Amber Alert is called off, people assume we're no longer looking for the child," Murphy said. "We're still very concerned and very worried about those children."

By continuing to have the Amber Alert in effect, Hernandez and the description of his vehicle will be on a national database that officers all over the nation have access to, he said.

"If they pull over one of his vehicles, they'll immediately know he's the subject of an Amber Alert," Murphy said.

This is the longest Amber Alert Utah has had since the Elizabeth Smart abduction in 2002. At that time, the warning to alert the public of missing children was still known as the Rachael Alert in honor of Rachael Runyan, who was kidnapped and killed in 1982 near Sunset. The alert for Smart was active the entire nine months she was missing, Murphy said.

"The public will always be the key in helping resolve these cases," he said.

Investigators believe Hernandez may have been headed with his children to Mexico.

I don't understand how an Amber Alert expires. IMO you have it or the children are found and its cancelled. In the meantime it should stay in "alert" mode. IMO you just can't cancel it because "nothing is happening". These children are out there and they are missing...Keep the alert alive and active because you never know.

Update on Amber Alert- Photos added

UPDATE: Photos added. The suspect is the non-custodial parent and has not returned the children from visitation on the 31st of August. The children are believed to be in danger of child abuse.

How tragic. Wonder why the Amber Alert was delayed. It is possible if LE had swamped TV and radio immediately, someone may have called in a tip.

Sure hope these children are safe. It really concerned me when I read the father has a history of physical abuse. If this dad was planning to take the children back into Mexico, most likely he has accomplished that goal by now. I hope he just wrote that in a note to throw off LE.
