COAST MAY FACE 20-FOOT WALL OF WATER http://blogs.chron.com/hurricanes/2008/09/frightened_but_riding_the_stor.html

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/hurricane/5997512.html

These morons and their dog had to be rescued at Surfside! They should be ashamed of putting a dog through that. The dog didn't ask for stupid owners.
People are warned and what do they do? Here is a perfect example! :madranting94dp:

The above area is right on the coast.
The Weather Channel is showing areas that are already flooding out (homes, etc.) and the storm is still about 200 miles off the coast. Surfside, Jamaica Beach, and parts of coast are already feeling the effects of the storm before it hits land. Winds expected at landfall are 115 mph. Debree is already coming over the seawall of Galveston.

Some people didn't want to get in the traffic this time to evacuate (because of previous experience when Rita hit), so they are going to ride out the storm in Galveston.

I wonder if they will be alive tomorrow after the storm moves on.

Some of the newscasts are saying certain death if they don't evacuate Galveston, plus I just read this monster is 600 miles wide!

Galveston is going to be pretty much under water! I thought everyone in Galveston was gone. I am truly horrified!

I just talked to my nephew's daughter who is still in Houston. I cried and told her I wished she had left. She says she is not in a high water area, and that she would be okay. I sure hope so!

Thank God we have the technology to track these storms so people are warned in plenty of time to evacuate. Unlike the old days. What year was it that thousands were killed in Texas from a hurricane, early 1900's I believe?

It was exactly 1900, Annalyzer! Here is a link.

CNN has great coverage on the Hurricane. They were showing the film of these 2 people who's truck got stranded on the beach, both were rescued just in time (seconds) before their truck was washed out into the Gulf.

Harris County Emerg Service has been announcing that anyone in a single story or 2 story home in the lowest lying areas that decide to try and ride the storm out, is certain death.

Just wait and each video will play one after the other.

THANK GOD FOR THE U.S. COAST GUARD!

The size of the storm and the surge of the water is what is going to be most devastating.

This is going to be Houston-Galveston's Katrina. JMHO

I am in Houston and everything is closed. They ask anyone that stayed in Galveston to write SS# on their arm. Our bay house is in Jamaica Beach and this is very bad but, it is just a house!

You have a good attitude. Your life is worth more then the house. I used to live in Houston until 28 yrs ago. I can honestly say, in all my life, I have never seen such waves as those that have been hitting Galveston today!

My prayers for everyone down there.

I just talked to a niece who lives in the Friendswood area of Houston. She and her husband are okay but without power. I asked about my nephew and his family who were in the Conroe area where the eye went. I think I got that they were okay, but her cell phone was shutting out. I have a call out to him.

I live 50 miles east of Austin, and we have been having strong winds here. Our power has been in and out several times from the wind. I'm hoping we will get a little rain. We are in extreme drought conditions here.

That is very sad.

I just got word from my nephew and his family who were close to Lake Conroe where the eye went through. They had evacuated there from Clear Lake, which is pretty flooded. He and his family came through it fine and have a generator where they are.

there are two staging areas for evac on Galveston right now -

Budeelove, you should try to see if you can find out where they are and try to contact them to be on the lookout for your friend, John Hall.
