thanks so much, Wheezer!!

These first photos are homes across the street from me. The sewer cover was blown right out with the water. The other photos are park photos which is about a block and a half from my home. It's a pond that over-flowed right onto the street that my home sits on. The busy street that I have mentioned in my posts. The road is closed.
People are walking around looking dazed and confused because their homes are flooded, some are stranded, MANY roads are closed, and water is just everywhere! I don't know if this from Ike, but this is one of the worst times I have ever seen.

Oh what a mess, Rock. I did see some on the news. They said it was a different system from Ike that hit there yesterday and still more rain today from Ike. So sorry. I flooded in the spring and I know what a mess it is. Ugh.

Wheezer thanks for posting the pictures.

We are not getting the rain, but the wind is pretty strong. I do know that most of Illinois is getting hit with this rain. My Mother-In-Law, as well as my other family and friends have been e-mailing me all day about the water. Especially in our hometown of Granite City.

Unreal for that to be Chicago. :francis: WOW

Janicelee just told us that Cincinnati is catching it today, too. They had to cancel her birthday party.

To see the look on the faces of people who live in Riverside, IL....OMG!! and it's not like they don't know IF they've lived in the area for some time, but still, what a mess!

The one photo I took is of Brookfield Zoo. The street is closed going to the zoo.

My thanks again to Wheezer, for uploading these photos. Many thanks, Wheez!!

One last thing. 7 photos up from here, (the 8th photo) is an area of MANY homes. I actually saw one lady walking right into the water!!?? It was waist deep at that time.

I noticed your photos are dated August 29. Wasn't that when Gustav came through?

As for flooded streets and yards....Welcome to our world. :67302: :zm10: :s1gyahoo:

Hi Pat,

Nope, they were all taken today. This morning. I believe Wheezer can vouch for that, as the photos I sent her read "September 14, 2008. I have no clue :shrug1: why the date reads that way. I'll ask hubby.

As for the flooded streets and yards, I'm sorry if you deal with this on a regular basis or something, but we don't, and none of us is equipped to deal with having 6 FEET of water in our homes, stranded on expressways, in cars with fast rising water, or stranded in our homes. Yes, we can and we do handle snow with much ease, but we don't receive this much rain in so little time. This was a first. And I'm sorry, but I don't find anything funny about this.

Just look at the people stranded, and how much damage that was done to homes, businesses and cars, and then you will understand why I don't find this funny.

Hubby just said that he didn't reset the date when he put new batteries into the camera.

rockford, my inlaws live in Highland Park - north of the city.

We lived in northern Lake Cty - Grayslake - for 12 years and I hear you when you say that northern Illinois doesn't get 6 ft of water in their basements. That is unreal!

We're now in northeast Ohio and we got Ike's remnants last night. It was horrible, as large trees all over our little town were being pulled from the ground and toppling on cars and homes.

Praying for those who suffered from this storm.

I was born and raised in the Higwood/Highland Park area. Don't ever remember seeing anything like that. I live in KY now. We had high winds and some branches down yesterday. Power was out for 6 hours. Lots of big trees in surounding areas are down and schools are closed. Thankful we dont have major damage.

I will keep you in my prayers.

My son lives in the New Lenox area and he said a creek rose there, and some people heard a man yelling for help and it appears he was swept away by water. Not confirmed but this was what being said in his neighborhood.

yes, that was on the news yesterday. They never did find him. If you look at the creek, it is very deceiving. Looks calm, but apparently, news reporters interviewed some 'official' who said that once in that creek, the current is VERY strong, and of course, it was very deep. I think the total of deaths so far was 4, but Riverside, IL is STILL a disaster area, as the DesPlaines river hasn't receded yet. And in Albany Park, (in Chicago) many people lost everything! They needed to be rescued from their homes.

Many people could not make it into work yesterday, as many, many streets were not passable.

If you look closely, I provided photos of the flood waters in Riverside, IL, and Brookfield Zoo.

I did see the ones of Riverside and the zoo, Rock. So sad for all of the people in the floods and it was horrible to see the it all in the midwest and down in TX and the south. Hope we don't get anymore hurricanes likes this one.

so agree, Packy. What really surprised me about the flooding was towns like New Lennox getting flooded. :shrug1: Everything out that way is getting so built up that you tend to forget about the people who live out near Plainfield, New Lennox, Minooka, Sandwich and so on... Glad to read that your son was ok.

Not sure the extent of flooding but the creek was high and swift.

my heart goes out to all that live in and around Riverside. Do you remember, Packy, when that town was the place to live? All the doctors from the hospital lived there, plus the lawyers and car dealership owners.

Expressways and schools around town are still closed. Much worse in parts of Indiana.

Yes I do, Rock. It always was a beautiful, quaint town.

Wow, the expressways still closed! That seems unreal.

I think they said it was the Calumet River.....but they are trying to suck the water off of the expressway and put it back into the CR, but it's too full.

Riverside/Brookfield High is still closed!

My but the area got dumped with lots of rain. I know the community must have been in shock having to deal with water in their homes. Enjoyed looking at the pictures. I've never been in a flooding situation so it always amazes me at how fast the water level can rise!

Beautiful area looking past all the water. Stay safe and I hope that you did not suffer any water damage.
