Yesterday's windstorm here in the Greater Cincinnati area claimed four lives, and left at one point almost 900,000 without electricity. Today, somewhere around 500,000 are still without power. I will confess to never having seen anything like this in my life. I left an hour earlier then normal to try to get to work, but between downed trees, live electrical wires, and traffic jams caused by non working traffic lights, I gave up when my 45 minute morning commute reached the two hour mark.

I am very fortunate in that my electricity came back on after being off for only 5 hours. I also seem to have escaped any serious storm damage. Although I think perhaps I may need some minor roof repairs. I'm still waiting for one of my brothers to come out and check that one for me.

This weather is getting scarier by the day. Whoever heard of hurricanes in Ohio or Illinois? Or tornadoes in downtown Atlanta?

I just heard on a newsbreak that there were roughly 30 fatalities from Ike, and millions still without power.

So glad you, your family, and property were spared serious damage, Janicelee.

Glad you are okay, Janicelee, and hope your roof is too. That wind was fierce here in IL too and I can't even imagine what it was like down where the eye of the hurricane went over.

All is pretty well here. The damage to the roof is very minor. A man who I sit on the board of directors with for a local civic group is a contractor, he came out and looked at my roof and said if I can wait until the weekend, he'll come out and fix my roof at cost plus, beer and a pot of my black bean chili. The best deal I'm likely to get in the near future.

I often make fun of being, a lesbian wiccan, in a small conservitive community, but I have to say, when you have a problem there is no better place to live and no better people to have as neighbors.

OMG, so glad that you and your family are safe. I was looking at the pics at the link and it looks like tornado damage. Strange, really strange weather. You were so lucky to have your power come back on so quickly. Stay safe and I hope your repairs will be small and not too costly.
