I also put this article up on the Political Board, but I know some are hesitant about going on that thread. So I brought it here b/c I thought it was important enough for everyone to read.

Security around Hyde Park property intensified

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man was arrested Tuesday near the Chicago home of Barack Obama. Police say he got too close to the security perimeter.

The man was taken into custody early Tuesday morning. He is also being questioned about items investigators found after searching his car.

Chicago police made the arrest on the security perimeter of Senator Obama's house in Hyde Park at about 4:59 a.m. Tuesday.

The Secret Service say the man did not breach that security perimeter. However, Chicago police say he could face criminal charges, which could be filed by Tuesday afternoon. The suspect is a 31-year-old Chicagoan whose name is not being released pending charges.

Police sources say the suspect was driving a late-model BMW when he allegedly got out of the car and approached the security perimeter. He was then told to leave by security, but sources say the suspect returned to Obama's home at least one more time, which led the Secret Service and the Chicago Police Department to get involved.

The Secret Service insists there was no threat to the senator, no threat to his family, and the security perimeter around his home was not breached. However, police sources say officers found a pistol and a bulletproof vest inside the suspect's BMW.

Security at the Obama home has been beefed up considerably since the senator became the Democratic Party's official nominee for president. He received the earliest ever full Secret Service protection for a newcomer to the presidential race this year.

Obama was in town Monday night to attend two fundraisers. On Tuesday morning, he left for Tampa, Florida, for three days of debate preparation.
