here's the story:

"INDIANAPOLIS — A convicted sex offender died Sunday during a struggle with a father who found the naked man in or near his 17-year-old daughter's bedroom, police said.

Police responding to a call from the city's northwest side about 3:20 a.m. found 64-year-old Robert McNally on the hallway floor with his arm around the neck of 52-year-old David T. Meyers, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Mount said Meyers had a heart condition and may have had a heart attack. An autopsy was planned.

Police said Meyers was naked except for a mask and latex gloves and had entered the home through a window near the girl's bedroom with rope, condoms and a knife. He was familiar with the home's layout because it belonged to a relative, police said.

The girl awoke and screamed when she saw the man in her room, police said. The father responded and struggled with the intruder while the girl's mother phoned 911.

Police did not anticipate any charges against McNally.

"If a person breaks into your home, you are justified in using deadly force in defending your family," said Mount. "In this situation, I don't think he was trying to kill him, he was trying to hold him down."

Meyers had served 10 years in prison for criminal confinement and sexual deviate conduct and was wanted in Boone County for failure to register as a sex offender. He was registered as a sex offender in Marion County.

Police said Meyers lived with his mother and had recently lost his job.

The death is under investigation and will be reviewed by a Marion County prosecutor.

"Nobody wins," McNally told The Indianapolis Star. "It's a lose-lose situation for everybody. He has family also."

He said his daughter went to church Sunday after the incident."

I can't say I feel sympathy for Myer's death. And believe this father was justified in protecting his daughter.

I completely agree. What parent would not have done the same thing? Complete instinct took over, this parent was going to defend his child come heaven or hell. As he should.

This father was protecting his daughter. He shouldn't be charged. I have no sympathy for Meyer. He got what he deserved.

Amen Kitty! I'm just glad the father put this miserable excuse for a human being down. If he hadn't caught him, there are no telling how many people he would have psychologically scarred and possibly killed.

For the father and daughter and all victims of sexual abuse:1222423:

Had the girl not awakened when she did, she could have been killed! If he had gotten the upper hand initially, there might have been a totally different ending to this story.
I am not making light of anything now. I just wonder if he went in the window with no clothes. Just mask and gloves. I can't imagine someone going around outside with not clothes on. Would he take time after entering the room to take his clothes off?
He had a rope, knife and condoms. In his hand? Just curious.

disgusting slime. I think he was going to rape her and then just leave. I heard on the radio that the time was something like 3:10a.m. I'm so glad that the girl was able to SCREAM for help!!

Ever since my son was born, and even in the summer months, I've always felt that I had to close the windows and lock them. Can't even feel safe in your own home! GRRRR

That is one twisted pervert society won't have to worry about again. Thank goodness this father and husband did the right thing and protected his family. I do not have any empathy for this man at all.

I agree 100% but I don't think he got what he deserved, 25 to life with Bubba would have been a better plan. :blondblush113268230

ITA except sex offenders are very rarely kept in the general pop. They are usually segregated amongst themselves which makes me even madder because then they can commiserate w/each other about their sick, deprived crimes.:puke:

heck, this country is filled with prisons that are only for sex offenders.

I feel sad for this dad. He said that no one wins in this situation, and he's right.
