In today's news, Associated Press reports from Ike Turner's funeral that Phil Spector was one of the eulogizers. Spector said that Turner was "demonized and vilified" by Tina Turner, and called the 1993 film "What's Love Got to Do With it," based on Tina T's autobiography, a "piece of trash movie." "Ike made Tina the jewel she was," said Spector. He also accused Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg of "demonizing" Ike Turner on their talk shows.

I read that too. According to Spector, Ike Turner was the best guitar player ever and he contrasted him with Eric Clapton saying something to the effect that Eric would admit I was the better player. Do ya think?

Seriously, I wonder how he (Spector) really treats his young new wife. Is she just for show? (like at his previous trial and the next one).

I find it interesting that Spector can talk about Tina Turner, Oprah and Whoopi when he has such a history of treating women rather roughly, if they want to leave his house. IMO

I'm pretty much assuming, Tex, that their marriage is a business deal, but she stood up for him in interviews until they shut her down. She didn't appear to be blessed with a huge amount of brains either. They probably don't actually see much of each other when she's not escorting him to trials and such.

My opinion only, however, I would assume the wife is a brainless, highly paid ornament. Spector obviously has a disregard for ALL women and that is what made it so surprising that he would've enlisted a woman as his defense counsel. Hopefully he paid her enough to put up with his sociopathic personality.

I wonder if we'd ever know just what his defense attorney Linda Kenny Baden REALLY thinks of him. What self-respecting woman & attorney could stoop so low as to defend this misogynist?

Appropriate, however, that Spector delivered an eulogy at Ike Turner's funeral, considering the abuse Tina suffered at her ex-husband's hands.

I completely agree that it's pathological. I can't see LKB defending him either unless she sold her soul to the devil himself. Didn't she realize that she was being used as a means for him to tell the jury that he's not a threat to women, just as he had his young wife there for the same purpose?

I kind of thought that since it was IKE'S funeral, that Phil was just trying to say nice things about the recent deceased. He is not very artful with his words, and it could come off sounding bad, but when you are memorializing someone at their funeral, it is usual to try to say something nice about them. Maybe Phil really does think Ike was that great of a guitar player - that is a nice thing to say. Dragging Ike and Tina's marriage problems and alleged abuse is inappropriate at a funeral imo, so I do not support it done here, but he is entitled to his opinion.

I agree since it was Ike's funeral he was trying to say kind words about him but think he stepped over the line when he started trashing Tina. He could've just left their marriage out of the eulogy instead, imo. It's no surprise that he said what he did since he doesn't even have one kind thing to say about Lana who he'd never met before the night he took her life.

I am attending the trial and writing about it on my blog. There is virtually no press in the courtroom.
