I have added a chat room... you will find it on the right hand side of the navbar... when you click on the link there is a dropdown box... you can choose to have it open up in a floating window so you will be able to see the board also.. or you can open it up in the window you already have open..

There is a main Lobby for general chat... and there is an option to create another room for chatting about a specific case..

Enjoy... I may have another surprise for you this weekend :zm10:

Just a few helpful instructions for the Chat room....

In the Chat Room drop-down box...

pick Enter ChatRoom (Floating) that allows you to keep both the board and the chatroom open at the same time

When you get in there... place your pointer in the big box where your message shows up and right click.. go to the bottom where it says 'PopUp Notify' and un-check this option.. it is a real pain if you don't.. You also use this area to change your font and font size.

To send another person in the chatroom a private message... go the the right panel where all the names are listed and right click on the person you want to send a message to.

After you get in there, place your pointer on the very bottom edge of the chatroom and when the arrow shows up, drag the bottom edge downward to open the box up to be longer... you will then see the area to type in..

I need to know

Is the version of Explorer that you're using supplied by a third party provider such as BT, Yahoo, Verizon, or SBC?

Are you running windows98.. XP .. Vista
or a Mac

What version of Java are you running

To get the version of Java you are using... right click on it.. open properties.. click on the General Tab .. click about and it should tell you what version you have

I've got broadband. HughesNet.

This is the message I get, and it sounds like Doj does, too. I downloaded the latest Java this morning.

I went to the first link and that's for starting chats of your own. :0009:

If you are using Java 1.0 1.1 1.2 or 1.3 1.4 it won't work correctly. You need to have version 1.5 or higher

Please visit http://www.java.com/ to download the latest edition of Java available for your PC.

This is the info I am getting from the place I bought the chat software

Pauli

If you go to the link above... it will check to see what version of java you have...

Also, if you updated already.. you may need to restart your browser

I have spent most of the day trying to figure it out... it is something on your end or no one would be able to get in there... it is somewhere in your settings. I'll keep checking to see what I can find out.

I use FireFox as my browser and I have that problem at some sites, but they will load in Explorer..

Is it possible it has something to do with slow speed internet like dial up? Can the people having problems chat at other places, watch videos, etc?

I'm still thinking. :g:

I have never had a problem like this before so I'm having a hard time figuring out what's going on.

But I went to a help page and they told me to look in setting-control panel and I should see a little Java coffee cup, well I don't see one and further down the page it says if you don't see the coffee cup, you don't have the lastest version of of the Sun JRE installed on your computer. So it definately sounds like it's on my end, now I just have to see why the first try to install failed.

Just as a suggestion, if anyone has problems after enabling Java or upgrading to a new version of Java, you may want to try a different browser, such as Firefox. I had a similar problem on a different board a while back. I knew Java was enabled and I was using the latest version because at the time I was doing quite a bit of programming using Java. I could never make it work using Internet Explorer but I had no problems at all using Firefox. Don't ask me why I just work on computers I don't claim to understand them. :shrug1:

Hi Alibar
I had a little trouble accessing the chat room, then I realized what I was doing wrong. I was in the chat room for an hour yesterday,we really didn't discuss the case;we were all over the place : heating bills price of gas and things of that nature.
There was some talk about child abuse, general information. My biggest problem is myself, when it comes to typing :groan: after I can take comfort that I AM NOT PERFECT.
Hope to see you in the chat room Boscorelli

Hi, Bosc! Just now saw your post. I'm only weeks behind... actually, I'm years... lol I have a full sheet watercolor across the room waiting to be finished; a large canvas on my easel against another wall and I can't seem to get myself moving in the direction of working on either. (((((

Turns out I've only visited the chat room once and it hasn't come to mind again. I've tried them in the past on other sites and never much got into the habit, but, maybe I'll try again with people I'm sorta familiar with.
