LIBERTY - Law enforcement and fire personnel from several agencies Wednesday combed the woods in Liberty for a man who was reported missing since Sunday.
Jose Adolfo Saravina, 35, was reported missing to Sullivan County Sheriff's deputies Sunday evening. He reportedly left his residence at # 16 Andrew Street, in the Good Life Trailer Park in Liberty sometime between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. Sunday morning.
Relatives became concerned because Saravina suffers from epilepsy, and did not take his medication with him. He has been known to walk great distances to visit friends. On one occasion he walked all the way to Ellenville from his residence in Liberty.
Deputies entered his name as a missing person into the New York Statewide Police Information Network on Sunday and conducted a preliminary search.
On Monday, deputies called in the Liberty Fire Department to help search the area around the trailer park. On Tuesday, sheriff's detectives followed various leads and checked local hospitals. On Wednesday, the Sheriff's Office set up a command post on Cross Farm Road, just off of State Route 52 between Liberty and Loch Sheldrake. Deputies called in the State Forest Rangers, a State Police helicopter, and additional K-9 units to aid in the search.
"This is a tough case", said Undersheriff Eric Chaboty. "We have no destination, and no direction of travel. We are checking the areas that he is known to frequent". Chaboty requests that if any member of the public spots Jose Saravina, to please call the nearest police agency immediately.
