Police search for woman missing since Christmas

CHICAGO - Chicago police were searching Wednesday for a woman who was last seen leaving her family's house on Christmas to get coffee at a nearby convenience store.

Noreen Murray, 69, suffers from schizophrenia, and a news release from police said she has "no community survival skills."

About 6:30 p.m., Murray left the house in the 6000 block of South Kilbourn Avenue and was headed to a 7-Eleven at West 63rd Street and Kilbourn on the city's Southwest Side.

Murray, who lives at Briar Place Nursing Center in Indian Head Park, was visiting relatives on the Southwest Side when she was reported missing.

She was last seen wearing a bright orange jacket, blue shirt and dark pants. She is 5-foot-6 and about 180 pounds. She is Caucasian and has brown hair and eyes.

Woman, 69, missing since Christmas found safe at homeless shelter

A woman who has been missing since Christmas was found Thursday evening while trying to check into a homeless shelter in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood.

Noreen Murray, 69, left a relative's house in the 6000 block of South Kilbourn Avenue Tuesday evening to get a cup of coffee from a nearby 7-Eleven, according to police. When she failed to return, relatives reported her missing.

Police found Murray as she tried to check into a homeless shelter in the 900 block of West Lawrence Avenue.


Murray was reported to be in good condition. She has since been escorted back to her home at the Briar Place Nursing Center in Indian Head Park.
