new low. At five PM, to avoid hearing news, I sometimes tune to MTV, because it's tiresome to always watch "What not to wear." So today, on MTV, "Paris Hilton's New BFF" was on and I left it there.

Don't know who the trashy looking gay guy is until later on and Paris calls him Perez... who is the one who latched onto the money-train with celebrity gossip. Apparently he is one of Paris' advisors.

'Tis hard to believe this is truly a TV show.

I'm sure I only watched it to see how low TV can go. LOL LOL

the pick up artist is a nerd who grew his hair out long and started wearing a stupid hat and eyeliner. If you dress and act like that you'll get some kind of girlfriend. look at Marilyn Manson. girls shooting out of his butt. This guy is some kind of weirdo and the weirdos he gets to get on his show is pure stupidy. some of them are not even shaving yet? who's he teaching? kids?
oh, and I can not tell a lie, I watch Paris Hilton my BBF. the only thing I don't get about her show is, why the extra B? best friend. BF. what's the extra B for? and some women refer to their husbands as DH what does the D stand for? I still don't know what DEF comedy jam means? what does DEF stand for? someone enlighten me! :party52:

TeeOne

DH mean - Dear Husband or DD - Dear Daughter
as for DEF - I'm clueless.....

According to Wikipedia: The word def is hip hop (including graffiti) slang for 'great', 'ill', 'dope', 'fly': generally, a positive adjective used as a superlative. Taken from the root word 'definitive', if something is 'def' then it is classified as being very good. If something is very definitive in its representation of its genre or classification, it is 'def'. Def Jam records took their name from this term.

Tee,
well thank you! now your gonna die when I tell you this, I've watched paris hilton on tv and watched her shows with Nicole Ritchie in those programs. and I've seen her on the red carpet more than I can say. what I get from Paris is this, she never takes a bad picture, she's always nice to the camera people, she acts like a lady. and for as young as she is, she hasn't made horrible mistakes with her fame. I think she's young and she's living her life now while she is young to be care free and doing a good job of it without hurting anyone around her. I think she is truly classy and has one of the kindest hearts I know of in hollywood. I think she gets a bad rap. but I find her to be generous with people and always keeps her word. I think any girl would be lucky to be best friends with Paris. She's looking for someone real. not a groupie. she wants a regular person. Not a fake hollywood one. I watch the show, I enjoy it.
OK, now I'll call and get my bed ready for the looney bin. I'm giving the key to my cell to Tee. when I've come to my sences she can let me out!:love0081: I might be an old rag by then...............LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sitting here thinking about how lady-like Paris was when she pulled up her dress and showed what she had to the camera and I don't know who else was there (I saw the photo... lmao!) Also, when she and Britney shaved their no longer privates and showed them to the world... According to all the comments by commedians and even commentators, it was the shock of the western world! lmao! :francis:

Okay, now my two cents on Paris. I don't know it was her that showed her private parts or was it an accident?
Since she has had her run in with the law and went to jail, she seems to have changed. Everytime I see her on tv, she is polite and kind. On the show she seems to have a kind heart.
True, she has never had to work for anything and comes from money, but she seems to enjoy work. Her work is different from the normal everyday working stiff, but still she wouldn't have to work at all if she didn't want to.
She's okay in my book and seems to have a career for herself. I know she has several business ventures and my guess is that she is generous with her chairty donations.
And God knows she's a knockout. Fly you're right, I've never seen a bad picture of the girl either.

I also watch the earlier series Paris made with Nicole... as it happens I started watching because the son of a man I knew in Santa Barbara wrote the music and he'd told me about it, but, probably would have watched it anyway, although it was before my reality show addiction. LOL

Also enjoyed the show with Kathy Hilton, I think it was called "Living like the Hiltons," or something like that.

I watched the show with Pair and Nicole also, it was okay but they appeared to be two spoiled rich girls and very inconciderate of others. I'm sure that was how the network wanted it to be. Actually both of the girls appear to have grown up since then.

Did we all figure out BFF? Did I guess right? Personally, I can't imagine any males taking this designation seriously. Not if they're over ten years old. But then, what is the emotional age of the competitors on Hilton's show? I'm sorry to intrude on this chat among ladies, but since I'm a helpless channel surfer, I of course have seen a bit of Paris Hilton's new show.

I was sorry to see Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton racking up such a terrible record as they "worked" their way across America in "The Simple Life." I trust everyone knows that Nicole Richie is Lionel Richie's adopted daughter. She doesn't know who her biological father is (not Richie), but keeps in touch with her biological mother.

I didn't see any of the photos showing more of Paris Hilton than is considered proper. Why would I want to? As for reflecting on her character, again, how would I know? She's a rich girl, likes to have fun, doesn't like physical labor, and wasn't brought up to be anything but what she is.

When John McCain was trying to think of ways to demean and embarrass Barack Obama he compared Obama, at one point, to Paris Hilton. The girl thought that was going too far, and snapped back by saying SHE was going to run for President.

Well, there's an upshot. Mrs. Stover is/was one of those diehard Hillary supporters, loyal unto death or the next election. It's time for a female President. Moreover, she didn't at all like what some of Obama's supporters said about Hillary, so she vowed not to vote for Obama. But she couldn't bring herself to vote for McCain either. So she wrote in the name, Paris Hilton. SWMBO is definitely true to her principles; that's one of the many things I admire about her.

Smokey,
Okay we know BFF is best friends forever. BUT, what is SWMBO? lol

Smokey Stover
11-13-2008, 04:16 PM
Alibar--I often have trouble with chat-speak acronyms. Although there seems to be universal agreement that BFF means Best Friends Forever, I think it might be more appropriate as Best Female Friend. After all, nothing is forever, and Best Female Friend is a good way to distinguish the friend from a BF, which means, I think, Boy Friend. I have the notion that LOL means lots of laughs, but why not Laughing Out Loud? No, don't answer, I know it's not for us to say.

'Tis all a Chequer-board of Nights and Days

Where Destiny with Men for Pieces plays:

Hither and thither moves, and mates, and slays,

And one by one back in the Closet lays.

The Ball no Question makes of Ayes and Noes,

But Right or Left, as strikes the Player goes;

And He that toss'd Thee down into the Field,

*He* knows about it all---He knows---HE knows!

This may not be the version you're familiar with. It's from the first version, of about five or six.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
-------

You asked about SWMBO--She Who Must Be Obeyed. DId you see the British television series, Rumpole of the Bailey? Rumpole used to denominate his wife, Hilda, that way. He got the idea from the popular H. Rider Haggard adventure novel, "She," about a mysterious white woman in Africa who imposed her will on a host of native men, who called her "She Who Must Be Obeyed."
More than one movie was based on the 19th century story, most recently with Ursula Andress as the bewitching siren.

You used to have a wonderful picture of a beautiful little girl that I believe was yours. She was really adorable. We all grow up, but pictures remind of what used to be. Where is the picture now of this delightful creature? I miss her--that is, I miss that particular picture of her. .

Hi, Smokey, as usual, you've posted interesting info. I'm cruising around the net in hopes of guiding my mind from the rut it has dug into over an event at a bridge game Wednesday. I'm sure I'll get over it, but, it's one of those things going round and round in my head and keeping me awake at night. grrrr

The darling little girl you mention is my 3 and a half year old greatgran. The result of marrying while in high school, having a daughter who had a daughter LOL and a few years later I completed my university years after my 2 were in elementary school.

Couple weeks ago, I switched to the comical photo of Gracie, who has turned into the devil sister. She grabs her older sister's security blanket and takes off running. She messes up the knob on TV if Isabella is watching a tape... whatever she can do to annoy. I do intend to switch back before too long.

As it happens, their mom brought them yesterday to visit for the day.

Alibar,

There are some people on this site whose posts I have been reading since the day I joined, or rather, before I joined. I should have said, since the day I joined the CourtTV site. So I haven't had time to get to know much about you, but what I do know is that you're an interesting gal with an interesting life, and a beautiful grandchild or two. I admire the fact that you turned your life into the direction you wanted it to go when you went to college, and that you didn't let your life get into too much of a rut, even if your bridge playing may have done.

The fact is, those people who find you interesting (like me) would be interested even in why you are now obsessing about a bridge game. Presumably you screwed up in some way--it's always harder to bear one's own mistakes than those of others.

When I was growing up no one played bridge in our house--it was always 500, not even canasta, although I had an aunt who played gin rummy. Well, we may have sometimes played pinochle. I had a friend with whom I played pinochle a lot when I was in high school. But the paper had a bridge column, and I knew it was a game many people played, so I wanted to learn. When I got to college I found many of my classmates playing a lot of bridge, and I spent a huge amount of time trying to become a good player. I went to an all-male school, miles and miles from the nearest girls' college, so we had lots of time to play cards. Unfortunately, it had a terrible effect on my grades.

I haven't played bridge since then, mostly because SWMBO hates it.

So what happened in the bridge game to put you in a tizzy?

Alibar

Smokey, a friend of many years used to quote:

"The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,

Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit

Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,

Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it."

At this stage of my life, I understand the full import.

So far as bridge... I learned to play at age 20, with my 2 babies playing quietly in the corner. There were gaps of 10 years where I didn't play, then out came the cards. In the beginning I didn't know what a suit or trick was. "Gambling" cards were not allowed by my parents. Only Old Maid and similar were the card games of choice.

At the game here... it is my reaction that upsets me. I am not the instigator of trouble, but, I tend to react quickly with trouble comes to me. LOL It was all so minor... the round ended a woman asked where she was supposed to go... I told her. This other woman yelled that I was wrong. Again, the other woman asked where she was to go and I told me. The screamer yelled that I was wrong and I don't know what else she said, but, she sounded crazy. Someone put the scoresheet in her face and she was surprised that she was mistaken. Then I piped up, "So, now you know you didn't have any idea what you were talking about? You sat there and yelled at me without knowing what you were talking about! "

By this time her face was turned away ignoring me. I told her she needed to apologize and her lips became even tighter shut.

So the game continued.

If I'm able to contain myself and not react I'm ok with myself, but, I react as if I have no control at all. I know this woman will not remember what she did, but, what I did.

I know it isn't worth bothering about. Unfortunately, this time it grabbed me and won't let go. :rolleye0001:

It's as I thought. You blame yourself, and that's always the hardest sin to forget--your own. But of course everyone has already told you that you have nothing to feel sorry about. Still, I understand your feeling. Someone pushed your buttons, and you're ashamed that it worked. I know that you know that you can't do anything about it, that counting to ten only works up until you reach ten. Actually, you sound like a good bridge player. But what would I know? I haven't played in ages.

Nice to hear from you.
