The body of man found Monday in a wooded area off Henderson Street has been confirmed as that of missing Lufkin man, Samuel Lee Pirtle, 41, according to police spokesman Lt. David Young. Officers found a gun near the body, but police said they did not yet have any reason to believe foul play was involved.
At the time of discovery, police had stated that they were not 100 percent sure it was Pirtle and the case was pending further investigation.
"We don't have any autopsy results but the Man's identity has been confirmed as that of Samuel Lee Pirtle," said Young. "We have notified the family of the positive ID."
Police were searching the area near Pirtle's home when they discovered the body, a Lufkin Police press release stated.
Services for Pirtle will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Gipson Funeral Home chapel. Internment will follow in the Largent cemetery.
