Silver Alert issued for missing Whiteville man

WHITEVILLE — A Silver Alert has been issued for a 79-year-old Whiteville man.

Albert Leon Dawsey was last seen at 104 B Jones Place, according to the alert issued by the N.C. Center for Missing Persons.

A Silver Alert is issued for missing people who suffer from dementia or some other cognitive impairment.

Dawsey may be driving a 1998 tan Saturn, license place WVP6574, the alert said.

Dawsey is about 6 feet tall, weighs about 175 pounds, has short gray hair and hazel eyes.

Dawsey’s vocal cords are paralyzed and he speaks in a low voice, the alert said.

Dawsey, 79, was last seen at 104B Jones Place in Whiteville. He may be driving a 1998 tan Saturn with North Carolina license plate WVP6574.

Dawsey is white, with short gray hair and hazel eyes. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 175 pounds.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
