SECRET MILLIONAIRE is a dramatic unscripted series that takes viewers out of their comfort zones and into the heart of America's social issues.
Each week, one of the wealthiest Americans, worth millions of dollars, will go undercover into one of the most impoverished and dangerous towns in America. Their job is to spend one week canvassing the town - meeting as many people as possible - some of whom will touch the millionaire with their dedication to helping others while others will have incredible stories of trying to overcome tremendous odds. On the final day, the Secret Millionaire meets with the chosen recipients and reveals his/her true identity and intentions - to give them a sum of money that is going to change their lives forever.
SECRET MILLIONAIRE will engage viewers in important social issues, extol the virtues of volunteerism and change the lives of disadvantaged people - and the philanthropists who helped them - in unexpected ways.
The series is based on the RDF UK format and the Channel 4 hit "The Secret Millionaire." Chris Coelen, Greg Goldman and Bruce Toms serve as executive producers.

They've done this for a few series in the UK - it's proved very popular...and kind of restores a bit of faith in humanity!
I caught the very end of the first episode last night, but watched the entire episode with the guy and his wife that own Cane's chicken.
I cried and cried. That particular episode really tugged at my heart. I've personally seen the damage that Katrina did. I did a good bit of work in that area right after Katrina, and for the 3 years following.
I was really impressed that the Cane's gave each person $100,000, and didn't split the money with any of them.
Nobody understands the devastation of Katrina unless you've been there.
Props for Cane's chicken, btw.. it tastes good! LOL

F~M,
The first segment with the Ruzicka father and son duo had me in tears. I'm not sure I've ever watched a show that has had that much of an impact on me as that.

Darn. I saw it on the guide last night, but didn't know what it was about.
I'll watch it next week for sure.
The only part I saw of that episode was when they gave the family with the little girl with cancer $50k. I cried then.
I also noticed how thin the millionaire father was. Did that episode by chance mention if he was sick? He looked awful frail. (I notice stuff like that).
This show is definitely a tear jerker. I'm tender hearted and stuff like this gets to me.

Get ready to cry.
I've always said if I ever became a millionaire I would do stuff like that for people. I would personally find people that needed it - individual cases.. not give it to a specific charity, I would want to see the money in their hands.
My first case would be struggling parents or struggling single parents.
I'm not gonna talk about this dang show anymore. Now I'm bluesin'.

I only saw the same portion as you did, F-M.
I loved the little couple that was building the community center/meeting place with the coffee shop. Oh and it has church service on Sunday and a movie night on Friday. lol They were so sweet and all while building this for the towns people, they lived out back in a fima trailer. They also donated groceries to the needy.:kissyface4:
Then the minister that was building a house for volunteer workers to stay in, when he lost his entire house.:11_2_104:
Not to forget the coach that drafted from three rivalry high schools to create a football team that went on to win the state championship:happy0158:
All of these ppl got $100,000 to continue their work.
I cried like a baby:1187603408.CR.Motheand quickly set the dvr to record series!

See, I really love the idea of helping people here, in the US, before going and taking care of other countries. Call me crazy.

Does anyone wonder why cameras and lights are following their every move?
Or has this been explained?

The unsuspecting 'social workers' are told the camera crew is doing a documentary.

I caught the last of it too. The lady he gave his car to, what kind of place was she running? The place for ex prisoners to come home to or was it something else?

Okay, I am PST and just started the show tonight.
I have to tell all of you, that Cane's Millionaires just were the most wonderful people...I just bet that they are not done yet...(they need to open up in CA...I will personally promote for them!!!)
I fell in love with that Minister...He is Blessed, and what a great person...I cried my eyes out, and damn, if I am not already getting misty!!!
You're a week behind us, Tracian. We saw that one last week. And you're right.. I'm so impressed with the Canes.
I've eaten their chicken. It's good.

That's the one we saw tonight. In Watts? (I think that was the city).
I was shocked that the millionaire wife said she didn't know that when some people get out of jail they didn't have any where to go. C'mon. Is she really that cut off from society?

Yes, I am watching the Watts episode...
In his defense, I think he assumed that people would have family to come home too...that is my thought anyway...

Yeah, some people don't realize that after being in prison for years, when some of the folks are released they have nothing but the clothes they leave in.. no family.. nothing.

I hope that this couple continues to help....The Canes, I think will continue, and so far the most generous.

I don't typically shed too many tears watching tv, however in this case, this show just does it for me. I feel a little silly as I sit there, but hey whatya gonna do, right? lol. Fortunately for me, the show has a similar effect on my wife.

The premier show was the best to date IMO. I was touched by the father son duo. I hope they remain conscious of these social issues that exist.
