NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Police Department asked for the public's assistance Saturday night in locating a missing 82-year-old woman.

Police said Almeta Mae Johnson, a New Orleans resident, was last seen by her granddaughter Monnesha Johnson on Wednesday in the 7700 block of Unity Street.

Detectives said they learned that Almeta Johnson and her son, 46-year-old David Lee Johnson, left the residence to go shopping on Canal Street and has not seen or heard from them since.

Almeta Johnson resides somewhere in Arkansas. It is unclear if the pair relocated to the area.

Monnesha Johnson said she is concerned because her grandmother is deaf and advised that this was uncharacteristic of her.

Almeta Johnson is described as a black female, weighing about 197 pounds and 5 feet 3 inches tall. She was last seen wearing a long-sleeved burgundy shirt and black pants.

Police are asking for the public’s help finding a missing 82-year-old woman, who has not been seen Wednesday, according to NOPD spokesman Officer Gary Flot.

Almeta Mae Johnson has not been seen since she and her son, David Lee Johnson, left to go shopping on Canal Street. She was last seen in the 7700 block of Unity Drive in New Orleans East, police said.

Mrs. Johnson was last seen by her granddaughter Monnesha Johnson, police said, adding that she is concerned because her grandmother is deaf.

Mrs. Johnson is described as an African American female, approximately 197 pounds, 5”3’ tall. She was last seen wearing a long sleeve burgundy shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mrs. Johnson should contact the NOPD at (504) 821-2222 or her granddaughter at (504) 246-9139.

Almeta’s case is now under Located/Recovered as there is no evidence she is still missing. Police Department was unable to verify active case with several tries.
