TUCKAHOE - Village police and the family of a 22-year-old autistic man who disappeared Thursday are asking for the public's help.

"It's very cold outside and we're hoping that anyone who sees him will give us a call,'' police Lt. Kevin Ferry said of Justin Billings, who was last seen about 6 a.m. near the Tuckahoe train station. "We're describing him as an 'endangered runaway' because he's highly functioning, but he's never done anything like this before."

"We're devastated,'' said the man's mother, Robin Billings. "I've cried so many times."

She said that her son left the family's 100 Columbus Ave. apartment without his cell phone and that he was upset after learning that he had not been accepted into a job-training program. She said Billings sometimes takes walks when he becomes upset or disappointed and that he often goes to libraries in the area.

"Usually he'll walk over to the library, look at a few books, go on the computer and then come home when the library closes,'' she said. "He really wants to find a job and go to work, and we know he was disappointed about the training program. I just hope he comes home soon."

Police said Billings, who is black, 5-foot-10 and weighs about 180 lbs., knows how to use the train and sometimes frequents malls in White Plains and the Vernon Hills Shopping Center in Eastchester.

He was last seen wearing a blue baseball cap (possibly a Yankees cap), gray Reebok sneakers, gray jeans, black socks and a gray Gucci winter jacket with a hood.

Anyone who has seen him or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call Tuckahoe Police at 914-961-4800.

Autistic man from Tuckahoe remains missing
By Hannan Adely • The Journal News • December 9, 2008

Police have no new leads in the disappearance of a 22-year-old autistic man who has been missing since Thursday.

Lt. Kevin Ferry of the Tuckahoe Police Department said today that police and family members are continuing to look for Justin Billings and circulate his picture.

Billings was last seen at about 6 a.m. Thursday near the Tuckahoe train station. His mother, Robin Billings, said her son was upset when he left the family's 100 Columbus Ave. apartment after learning he was not accepted into a job-training program.

Billings' mother last saw him walking toward the library and called police when he didn't come home, Ferry said.

Police consider him an "endangered runaway," because he left of his own free will, but he is also autistic.

Billings was last seen wearing a blue baseball cap, gray Reebok sneakers, gray jeans, black socks and a gray Gucci winter jacket with a hood.

Anyone who has seen him or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call Tuckahoe police at 914-961-4800.

Missing Tuckahoe man found in NYC; back home
By The Journal News • December 19, 2008

TUCKAHOE - Village police say Justin Billings, a Tuckahoe man who was missing for over two weeks, was located at the Bellevue Homeless Shelter in New York City this morning.

A Department of Homeless Shelter officer at Bellevue recognized Billings, 22, from a missing person flier and confirmed his identity, police said.

Tuckahoe police had been in contact with the department after some reported sightings of Billings, who has autism, earlier in the week.

The city officer contacted Tuckahoe police, who went to the shelter at First Avenue and 30th Street, and picked him up.

Billings was unharmed and in good condition, and was looking forward to getting back home, police said, when they arrived.

He was reunited with his family at home, they said.
