Bringing nicky's post over here from the end of the old thread. Please help if you can.
This was a 15 year old child, murdered and stuffed in a freezer. IMO, these two deserve no leniency at all.
"Icepak" is his mother.

Morning everyone! I need your help and so does icepak, I started a thread, PLEASE HELP: Jeffrey Blake Stone. It has a link to Jeffrey's page. There is a trial today to try and get one of the monsters Youthful Offender Status today at 1 and another judge is thinking but hasn't ruled yet if the other monster can be out on bond. Please e-mail fax and call so that this doesn't happen! My son and Jeffrey went to the same school and I don't ever want these monsters back in my community!!!! Thanks for anything you can do to help. Jeffrey has a younger brother Andy that is terrified these guys might be out soon!

I just wanted to say for everyone in the world to hear that I LOVE my dad more than I can ever express. I have never in my life known a kinder, more gentle, honest man, and I never will. I am so lucky that he is my father and that he has been there for me my entire life, unfailingly. The world is a better place just because he's here.
Okay, I'm done. Just had to tell someone that!

Details? Well.... I'll just say that I realized today just how much he has supported me through my life. Through every stupid mistake, every bad choice, every hard time. I was just thinking about him & he seriously is such a completely GOOD person, I was a little overwhelmed with how lucky I am. I wish I was 1/2 as good a person as he is.
You're damn lucky you're home today and that you have snow!!!

Hello everybody!
The sun is out today and traffic is moving again. That was quite a ride yesterday. The storm pretty much shut down two cities. When the bridges to Duluth are closed, you're stuck on whichever side you happen to be.
Wonderful words about your dad, Claudia. I miss my dad sooo much.

Claudia, your words about your dad are particularly meaningful to me because I could have said them about my father, who was a good man in every sense of the word and I'm so thankful to have had him in my life for so long. He died at 97 in l997. :)

For Christmas, how about making up a
Tribute To You, Dad
or
My Dad My Hero
[on fancy paper]
and say all the things on your heart directly to him and frame it so he can hang it on the wall; make a smaller version he can hang in his office.
He would be so delighted and treasure it always. Others can see it too. Tell him somewhere in there=at the end mebbe= Dad, you are my Hero.
[a man cannot get higher praise=he waits all his life to hear it=hopefully from wife and kids.]
All of us might think of doing such a thing for a loved one or more~no money could buy such a gift~~
Caution: be sensitive if you have a mom and dad make one for both=avoid hurt feelings here!! Make one for each child or sibling...
If the loved one is deceased do it anyway~

I found out today just how much fun it ISN'T to drive in the snow! Who knew??
After nearly breaking my neck getting out to the car, I suspected I was not wearing the right kind of boots. The equally scary trip across the store parking lot convinced me that my suspicions were correct. So I bought me some new boots. Whoohoo. Two very kind strangers then helped me figure out how to turn the wheels on the car so that I could get back onto the road. They had a good chuckle about my FL license plate.
After two more stops on the way home, I was starting to get the hang of it. However, once I turned on my street I realized for the first time just how steep of a hill we live on. The little engine tried and tried to make it up but it just wasn't gonna happen. Had to abandon the car for now and walk home - am still trying to defrost my nose...which is still tender from when the car door attacked it.
So Klatchers - here's my question. My car is not the only one abandoned on the side - in fact, there's quite a pile of them at the bottom of that hill. However, should I venture back out and put a note on it?? I don't want to get towed.
Welcome to all the new peeps I see!!!!!

Good idea, Grins. KC did that one year for Fathers Day... gave it to my DH, not his birth father.
That caution might take some work. If, for reason, Claudia can't be as positive and loving with the other family members it might be better to NOT make one to them... it might dilute the heartfelt feelings she put in tribute to her father.
just a thought.

:71526:Exactly right PatC=give it thought as to how to honor someone without hurt to another.
A private letter sent to an office, or a lunch where all is spoken but not written=just make it special as befits your situation. Wisdom and love in all things; ask advice if in doubt=we have wisdom and love here~~

Aww Claudia, so sweet a post and very touching too! :give_rose: I don't think it was dumb at all, as it was so endearing to read and how could anything so endearing cannot be dumb. You are lucky to have your Dad and he is very fortunate to have such a caring daughter.

In keeping with our recent discussions about cars, I received information leading me to this link today:
Barn Car (http://www.californiaclassix.com/archive/40_Barn-Dodge_c154.html)
I found this particularly interesting...
When FH (first hubby) and I were married, one summer we took his grandparents on a vacation back to their ‘roots’, Robinson, IL for her and some little town in West Virginia hanging on the side of a mountain. Grandpa still had two sisters living back there, one of them lived in a 150+ year old log cabin that had been in her husband's family since it was built. Next door to the log cabin was a “new” two story house that her son had built for them before he went “away to war” (WWII). She had never moved in the house, but had kept it maintained with roof repairs and fresh paint every few years.
There was a free standing garage next to that house. In it was parked the son’s car, right where he had left it up on blocks to wait for his return from WWII. He never came home and the car had never been moved. There was a tree growing right in front of the double garage doors so we couldn’t open them, but could see enough through a window to prove the car was still there but we couldn't tell what kind. FH and I were already divorced when I heard that the lady had died. I had to wonder what happened to that “barn car”.

Wooo hoooo Saber new boots! :s1gyahoo: Ya know before I would walk back down the hill and back up the hill, I would call a neighbor and find out what the routine is with leaving the cars at the bottom of the hill. Aha but you do have some new boots to break in :girl_haha: Good Luck! Maybe a 4 wheel drive would help. That is what I have as we live in the country on top of the highest hill in the county. I use to have a jeep but traded it for a Highlander. It goes anywhere. :basic44:

Best thing is to call local police and ask advice. No towing usually unless you block access but do take action =NOT going down there to drive it. AAA will pick you up and take there=have it towed home.

Don't leave it there if you can help it, Saber. They'll tow it in order to clean the roads (that's their excuse, they don't really clear the roads). The least you'll get is a ticket in the amount of $45 to $139.

This is the perfect place for it dear Claudia. How good of you!
Grins, when my grandmother's 90th birthday was coming up, I sat down & wrote a "letter" to her, telling her about all the good memories I had of her & her home while I was growing up. It ended up being about 5 typed pages long. When she passed away, my dad was cleaning out her things & he found my letter in a folder in her bedroom and gave it back to me.
I may do the same for my dad - but I won't wait til he's 90. I'm thinking next year would be good. I'll give it to him for his 75th.

Hi everyone!
Claudia, Not dumb or corny at all what you said about your dad. I sure wish mine was still around! You should tell him, he won't be here forever. But wait, isn't he still running/jogging or something healthy like that?
Heck yes! He runs, plays tennis & golfs. He'll be 75 on his next birthday. Just another reason to admire him!
Oh - and I didn't mean to bail mid-convo earlier. My desktop has something BAD wrong with it. I was sitting there typing & it restarted itself. It kept restarting itself over & over. I started it in safe mode & spent the afternoon getting all my pics off of it & saved on a flash drive just in case!

Oh... and you asked about the little one earlier & didn't get to answer. She's peachy! Such a little demon, though! She's a thief - she steals whatever she can get her mouth on & takes it to her crate & leaves it there. I have to clean it out often, or there'd be no room left for her!!

I have to admit, it is really cute. I take her up with me where I watch the kids during the day, and I let her run around while the kids were sleeping. All she did the entire time was run back & forth filling her crate with wooden blocks & baby toys. It was a riot!

That's good. I can remember when Sandy was a young dog everything was a toy to her too. She now has one toy (a koala) which she still plays with from time to time and is looking worse for wear after nearly 10 years.

Don't leave it there if you can help it, Saber. They'll tow it in order to clean the roads (that's their excuse, they don't really clear the roads). The least you'll get is a ticket in the amount of $45 to $139.

Roe - :11_2_104:! I am so glad I checked back in here earlier. After I saw your post, I booked it in my new boots back down to the end of the hill and all but two cars were gone! I managed to get the car turned around, and remembered a different route where the climb is much more gradual...and of course, entering from the other end of the street, it's all downhill. It's actually good I moved it at night when there were no pedestrians to run over and cars to slide into. Earlier today, kids were everywhere with their snowboards and sleds.
Anyhow, I am gonna keep Newhouse Hutchins in my phone in case I get stuck again. Thanks for the recommendation.
I would gladly have brought you some food! The only reason I was even out today was cuz DH needed a couple of things shipped to him. By the time I got home, I was just thankful I made it back alive and didn't hurt or hit anyone along the way! It is scary driving around in that mess! Do you think it will be better driving tomorrow? Dogs are starting to run a little low on food...so either I have to ration them for a few days or venture out before the snow comes again.

I think tomorrow mid morning will be better. I'm out of cat food, she has enough for a day or two. But the place I get it is up on Barns Rd in the hills... I may have my dad go up and get it for me. I'm sure he won't make me go into work tomorrow but he has to run in to do some stuff. I know my little cars won't make it up the hills. Down they'll do but probably not safely.
I ordered groceries online just now and they'll deliver tomorrow night (crossfingers), we saw the truck today go by our house so if they can make the hill today they should tomorrow.
Hubby walked down to the mini mart this afternoon for soda and snacks (he was getting cabin fever) and almost got hit a few times by people swerving on ice even though he was on the sidewalk.

Ahh - I am the worlds worst when it comes to anything to do with a car's mechanics. We bought it in FL right before we moved out here.
You can tell your hubby I'm not leaving the house until the roads are back to normal! lol....the dogs will just have to eat some people food for a little while - not that they will have a problem with that! Birthday Surprise
Pin the tail on the donkey
was my duty at the party
all the other kids were watching
as I spun around around
headed for the place I thought
was right
but then
heard the laughter
ever after
my birthday did remind
my Dad
to tell the story of the time
I pinned the tail of the donkey
on his behind~
With love though, Grins

All fudge makers HELP!
Use 12 oz. bag of milk chocolate chips.
1 lb. can of any frosting (the whipped frostings don't have a full pound in the container)
Melt the chips in the microwave, stirring frequently (chocolate tends to hold its shape, so you can't leave it to its own devices to melt correctly). Stir in the chocolate. If desired, add nuts, etc. Spread in a pan to cool.

I'm making a trip to the post office today to ship presents (both my sisters live in other states), then grocery store for a few things. And I'm making Chex Mix for a couple of parties going on this weekend. Maybe I'll even make a batch of caramel corn, too.
And before anyone asks, here's my caramel corn recipe:
Oven Caramel Corn
2 Cups brown sugar
2 sticks butter
1/2 cup white corn syrup
6 qts popped corn (use Movie Theater Butter microwave corn for extra richness)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
Boil brown sugar, butter, syrup and salt for 5 minutes in large Roasting pan. Remove from heat and add vanilla and soda. Pour over the popped corn and stir well. ( may add 1-2 cups of nuts at this time also!) Pour mixture back into Roasting Pan. Place in a 200 degree oven for 1 hour. Stir about every 15 minutes. Remove from oven and cool. Store in covered containers to keep crisp.
If you don't have a stove-top safe roasting pan (or a roasting pan at all), make the caramel mixture in a saucepan and pour it over the popcorn in a clean paper grocery bag. Bake in the bag as directed. The bag won't burn because the oven temp is 200, and the burning point of paper is 451. This caramel corn is good with salted cashews and candy corn mixed in after it cools.

Morning everyone :0012:
I got this in an email yesterday and it made me think of our own London Lass:
MESSAGE FROM, HRH THE QUEEN
To the citizens of the United States of America from Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
In light of your failure in recent years to nominate competent candidates for President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately.
(You should look up 'revocation' in the Oxford English Dictionary.)
Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths, and territories (except Kansas, which she does not fancy).
Your new Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a Governor General for America without the need for further elections.
Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed. To aid in the transition to a British Crown dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:
-----------------------
1. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'colour,' 'favour,' 'labour' and 'neighbour.' Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters, and the suffix '-ize' will be replaced by the suffix '-ise.' Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. (look up 'vocabulary').
------------------------
2. Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as ''like' and 'you know' is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication. There is no such thing as U.S.English.. We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take into account the reinstated letter 'u'' and the elimination of '-ize.'
-------------------
3. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday.
-------------------
4. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers, or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not quite ready to be independent. Guns should only be used for shooting grouse. If you can't sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist, then you're not ready to shoot grouse..
----------------------
5. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. Although a permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.
----------------------
6. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left side with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.
---------------------
7. The former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling gasoline) of roughly $10/US gallon. Get used to it.

8. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called crisps. Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with vinegar.

9. The cold, tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as beer, and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as Lager. New Zealand beer is also acceptable, as they are pound for pound the greatest sporting nation on earth and it can only be due to the beer. They are also part of the British Commonwealth - see what it did for them. American brands will be referred to as Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine, so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion.
---------------------
10. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors to play English characters. Watching Andie Macdowell attempt English dialogue in Four Weddings and a Funeral was an experience akin to having one's ears removed with a cheese grater.
---------------------
11. You will cease playing American football. There is only one kind of proper football; you call it soccer. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American football, but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of nancies)..
---------------------
12. Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the World Series for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.1% of you are aware there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable. You will learn cricket, and we will let you face the Australians first to take the sting out of their deliveries.

13. You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad.

14. An internal revenue agent (i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due (backdated to 1776).

Just had to tell someone that!I have to add that I love my parents the same. I hope some day my kids will say the same thing about me.
Try to blow some of that snow East!!! I want snow!!! It was 70* here yesterday & sunny. Then overnight the rain started. We're supposed to have rain on & off for 3 days. :frown:
It was in the 60's here yesterday, but today it's quite a bit colder, low 30's..burr!
I just refilled the woodstove, and now it's all cozy warm in here. :yes2:

---------------------
8. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called crisps. Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with vinegar.

Uhoh doj you reminded me I left clothes in the washer last night. :duh:
Cold here too under 30 and we have more snow today, and more on the way. Dangit it had all just melted too.
Nice you have your shopping all done and wrapped too. I have to use gift bags as nothing on the plane can be wrapped.
When are you leaving Orchid? I would like to call my sister or brother in Florida and ask if they would like house guests!!! I know they would say yes, but I have all my kids here. I think we were 5 degrees this morning, it's suppose to warm up to a whooping 20, that's when the snow will start. We had a beautiful weekend and it was warm enought to melt most of the snow that we had. BTW, have a great trip, I know you're all excited.

It is meat, vegetables or seafood (that's what I had) grilled on a skewer.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Souvlaki
It is only the second time I have had that sort of thing. We wanted to try the restaurant as we had heard good things about it and the food was very tasty.
Mmmmm, that sounds tasty, now my stomach is really growling. I think I have to look for something to eat.

Saber, your post about driving in the snow cracked me up. Being a southern girl too, I had a similar experience learning to drive in the snow. My ex was transferred from San Mateo, CA to Omaha, Nebraska and what a major transition it was. Arriving in Nebraska on a January morning right into a blizzard. We were stranded in western NE for 2 days. I made the comment then and there that I was NOT going to drive in this S**T! Ex informed me that I would have to and that he was not going to drive me everywhere I wanted to go. We finally make it into Omaha and he pulls into a car dealership (we drove my vehicle from CA). I asked him what was he doing and he informed me that he had left his car that for service before coming back to CA to move us. I immediately said "how are we going to get both cars home?" I was informed that I was going to drive mine and he would drive his. Talk about having an anxiety attack right then and there. Well, I drove my son and I to the motel.....at about 10 mph....I was not going to go any faster than that. Talk about irrate people behind me. I learned very quickly how to get around in the snow and was pretty proud of myself. We finally got moved in to our new home and the first time I drove my son to school it was snowing again and yep, like you we lived on a steep hill. I started sliding and was trying to get the car on to an open field and here comes a 4-wheel drive huge truck coming right at me. Yep, wrecked that Lincoln that I was driving 'cause that idiot plowed right into me. That was my first and only wreck driving in the snow but I still would rather drive up there in the snow that in Dallas when an ice storm hits.......and that's another story!:INhouseReading04:

doj, we leave on Saturday! I'm really anxious to get there it seems like forever since I saw our daughters and grandbabies. They cleaned our place and took the hurricane shutters down too. I guess it was about time  They even decorated our place with all the decorations they didn't want anymore, so I am axious to see what they did.
Boy our weather is nuts too. The snow had melted and now there is more, we seem to be on the edge of the bad current that is coming across the counrty. Owell, great excuse for not going out! :yes2:
Thanks for wishing us a great trip, hope the airlines are on schedule and we don't need any deicing, that would scare me. :45024:

I don't dare go into the grocery store if there is a threat of bad weather... hurricane, snow, whatever. It is like a madhouse! The shelves are literally picked clean. Like these people think they won't get out again for a year or something!!! Do they do that there, too?

Yep. We were gonna stop at the store on the way home Saturday night but just the parking lot alone was getting me irritated by stupid people so I said screw it we don't need food! I rarely believe the weathermen anyway and didn't figure it would be as bad as they said it would be.
We had to order online last night so they'll deliver since we can't get out (we saw them up here yesterday so their trucks can make the hill).

I usually shop Safeway. I think they deliver but went with Albertson's...
I signed up for the savers card so with the savings it equaled out the delivery charge.
I got the last delivery for today!!! Just order before 10p the day you want it all delivered - or you can pick a date later in the week and the time frame.
If you always get the same main things you can save it and have it delivered every week at the same time (you can adjust your orders too).
You can also order online and go pick it up all ready bagged and paid for so you don't have to go in. I;d just save the $5 and go in and shop but if you really hated shopping it would be ok.

My sister gets a bunch of stuff delivered from Amazon. Not books - groceries. She has auto-ship set up on things her family uses regularly, and gets a discount because of the auto-ship. Plus, she earns Amazon gift certificates, because she charges it to her Amazon Visa. I don't think they have fresh items (meat, produce, dairy), but it's worth checking out for other staples.

Yeah, I said no 'small' names, no Mexican names, and no 'black dog' names!
My first Chi was the way your son's was. My mother babysat him for me several times & he wouldn't eat until I picked him back up.

It's funny how they get like that at times, my Sandy does it too and then makes up for not eating when she gets home.

PeeWee's food and water was in my son's room. When I walked down the hall, PeeWee would go into his mean growling machine mode... sitting just in front of me, with his head down and viciously snarling... So afraid I was going to get his food... poor little pooch. :francis:

It's freezing here!It took me 45 minutes to drive home from DD's volley ball game. Usually it would only take about 20 minutes. Most people were driving 5 to 10 miles an hour. The snow is still coming down and I haven't seen a salt truck out yet. It's Freezing here too Tam. Don't you just love Wisconsin??????
