The Frederick County Sheriff's Office is investigating a human skeleton found by a hunter along Gas House Pike in Frederick on Saturday.
The skeleton belonged to a white man in his mid- to late-40s who died between June and July this year, according to Cpl. Jennifer Bailey, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office on Monday was preparing to release distinguishing details about the skeleton to other police agencies so they could check their lists of missing persons, Bailey said.
"The Frederick County Sheriff's Office is not investigating any missing persons at this time," Bailey said.
The skeleton was found in the 9900 block of Gas House Pike, which is east of Frederick and north of Interstate 70, at about noon on Saturday.
The skeleton was not intact, Bailey said, but investigators have determined that the man was wearing a blue or black knit cap and Mountain Gear brand hiking boots when he died.
Det. Regis Seccola is investigating the case, Bailey said. Seccola observed an autopsy performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore on Monday.
The autopsy revealed that the man sustained a severe fracture in his left foot at some point in his life, and may have walked with a limp, Bailey said.
Details, such as height, weight, dental composition, and cause of death have yet to be determined, Bailey said.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Det. Seccola at 301-600-2825.
