Mother, friend jailed in 2-year-old’s death

Atlanta police have arrested a mother and her boyfriend in the death of the woman’s 2-year-old son.

Gloria Singleton, 23, and Mario Cunningham, 20, were charged with felony murder and cruelty to children just hours after the toddler was pronounced dead at South Fulton Medical Center.

Doctors alerted law enforcement around 7:45 p.m. that the child’s death was suspicious, said Atlanta Police spokesman James Polite.

An autopsy is pending, but Polite said investigators suspect the child was left unsupervised in a bathtub at the Travelodge off I-75 and Cleveland Avenue.

The two suspects are being held at the Fulton County Jail.

I totally agree with that statement;but they teach 'sex' education in school;but these parents and teachers fail to impress that sexual choices have consequences.
Another 2 year old died. I hope this case generates the same 'publicity' and outrage as the CAYLEE MARIE ANTHONY & Jon Bennet Ramsey murders.

Who would leave a 2 year old unattended in a bathtub??THe depraved mind set of the parent who didn't want the child in the first place;or got 'fed up' with caring for the child.

It seems as time goes on we see more and more of the so called parents that do not put their child first and are lax in the care of their child. I think there is more to this story then being left unattended in the bathtub.

Yes there is a lot more to this tragic case.Once again it is the 'depraved indifference ' to human life. This mother and her boyfriend couldn't care less about this child and it woud not suprise me,if this child was left unattended DELIBERATELY,hoping that it would look like an accident.This of course is JUST MY OPINON.

I wish I could say 'young and stupid' but I remember several years ago, before hubby and I had little Rock, and hubby was over at his best friend's home.
This man and my husband were outside, talking, when the man's wife walked out of the apartment and told her husband that she was just going over to his mother's apartment to check on her and could he 'watch the baby?"

My husband said, "where is baby?' And she replied, "in the bathtub...playing.'

She was in her 30's and worked downtown Chicago as an HR manager....a high profile job and not stupid, but when it came to sometimes caring for their children, she made some very stupid mistakes.

Needless to say, Mr Rock and his friend went into the apartment that night, and watched the 2 year old.

I hope these murderers are sent to prison for a very long time. I could ask why a mother could allow her baby to die, but, the question would be pointless because so many mothers DO allow it. They either sit and watch their "boyfriend" kill the baby or they do it themselves or together. It is a heartbreaking part of our world.

Similar deaths are noted at least weekly in the Tulsa newspaper, so, all the other metropolitan news sources will have far more. I've no idea what the solution is to keep these babies safe from being maimed or killed. It's almost best for the helpless babies to be killed than to be maimed by their caretakers or companion of caretakers and spend the remainder of their lives so physically and mentally damaged they have no hope of a normal life.

Your post speaks volumes of TRUTH;especially near the end of your post when you state;that it might be the best solution,so the child wouldn't have to expierence any further ABUSE by the Negligent parent.
Examples Caylee Marie Anthony. Casey was no longer the center of attention,that she craved so much in life.Caylee's needs must come 1st;so Casey murdered her.
Now Casey is the center of attention in a murder and will be found GUILTY and do LWOP.
Jon Benet Ramsey died Christmas 1996 murdered by her mother because this child more than likely didn't want to be a child model;but a normal little girl.
Patsy Ramsey murdered her because she was trying to 'relive' her own fame throught this child.This of course is JUST MY OPINON
Patsy died. The husband and son Burke,still refuse to speak the truth of this murder. Jon Benet would be 18 years old.
