Singer-actress Eartha Kitt dies at 81

Was a star on Broadway, in movies, on recordings

NEW YORK - Singer and actress Eartha Kitt has died of colon cancer at age 81, her longtime publicist Patty Freedman told NBC News on Thursday.

Kitt died in Connecticut with her daughter by her side.

Kitt was a star of Broadway, records and films; she even played Catwoman in the Batman television show in the 1960s. One of her hit songs was the campy Christmas song "Santa Baby." She spoke out against the Vietnam War at a White House luncheon in 1968.

One time when Ms Kitt appeared on a night talk show, she was possibly middle age, maybe 50. The host was a substitute and young. Am thinking it was Jerry Seinfeld on the Tonight Show. The two chatted awhile, then he asked Eartha how she remembered such and such events back in her day?

She visibly sat up straighter, "...back in MY day? Back in my day! Today is my day!"

Can't recall what else, but, can still see her reaction.

Yes Eartha Kitt was a most talented woman with an 'unforgetable voice. These people today who call this singing;which is not singing;should listen to the quality of her music, her talent and her voice, and LEARN SOMETHING. Boscorelli
