I wanted to share a great link I found that lists the top 10 weird things to feed birds. Several on the list hadn't occurred to me.

If anyone has anything else "weird" to add, please do!

I think everyone knows about stale bread, but birds also will eat leftover french fries (I bring them a birdie box) or hashbrowns, also cereal.

Exactly. I think birds will eat anything grain based or potato. Our squirrels like to have some bread now and then, too.

And they're fun to watch when they eat them. They often sit up and turn them around and around as they nibble around the outside. :)

I have spoiled bird city at my house accompanied by spoiled rotten squirrels.
EX: I have 5 parrots, therfore I recycle seed, pellets, fruits and veggies hurled at me by these ungratful pssacistines (spelling ?). So, the neighborhood wild bird populations know this Must be the place for leftovers. The stinkin squirrels have literally chewed through my slider screen door and scavaged the floor and bottoms of my parrot cages for the sunflower mix. I came home one day to a squirell party on my fireplace, 5 to be exact, looking at me like I intruded. So ended the screen door for years until I provided the suckers with left overs way back in the north 40. I have 8 ft. poles with feeders extending outwards away from trees and these rodents still can olympic jump onto the plastic feeders and knaw their way into the niger seed. I need to get a b b gun soon, only kidding.
But, I have rolled seed and leftover fruit into suet and placed up in air on a platform and what winter birds still here seem to enjoy. Have not seen the red tail hawks for sometime, I thought they do not migrate. Will see, looking forward to my new binocular/digatal camera. Night all

I put out some peanuts in shells for them now and then, but I never did the cracker sandwich thing. Most people think of squirrels as pests, but I enjoy their antics. I've missed seeing them all the time since it's been so cold. I guess they are staying in their nests keeping warm.

Sticky, I know squirrels can be destructive. That squirrel party must have been something. Except for chewing through feeders, we haven't had any problems with the squirrels.
