Comes back on ABC tonight. I like this one. Can't believe the way some people live, and actually think they're normal, then try to push their beliefs off on the other family. They usually all learn something about others in the process, though, so I guess it's a good thing.
Super Nanny also comes back tonight. She's good, but how could a parent let these kids get so out of control to start with?

Remember last year (I think or the year before and then she tried to swap again with a different family) when the wives swapped and one was a religious zeolot and the other was into tarot, charts of your birth signs, etc.? Both husbands were fairly easy going. The religious mom wouldn't even let the younger child (hers) take dance lessons. At the other house, she scared the family to death and they had to put their foot down. Anyway, she left early and went home. In the taxi going to her house she prayed and carried on. When she got to the house she went into a frenzy saying Satan had tried to control her and got all hysterical. Then she screamed, "In the name of Jesus get your f*cking azz out of my house!" This was yelled to the camera crew. Her family just stood there horrified at her.
I just couldn't stop looking at the show and my mouth was open 10 minutes in shock after it was over! I really thought the woman had finally snapped and lost her mind!

I do remember her, Texas. What a nutcase. Not because of her religion, just the way she acted. She did seem better the second time around.
But wasn't that on the other show, Trading Spouses? Same premise, but you had to watch it for two weeks to get the whole story. Wife Swap wraps it all up in one.

I love the wives who go from sparkling clean homes to some so filthy they would be in Better Homes & Garbage! Then the wives or husbands who rule with an iron fist, exposed to a 50/50 partnership home in terms of responsibility with family and home. Of course, the kids will be one way or the other due to whatever type parents they have.

I've always thought that if I had gone on a show like this, I would be a lot nicer, and try to understand their ways, if not agree with them. Most of these go barreling in spouting that their way is the only way.

Bless her heart, that was Margarite from Louisiana. But didn't her daughter own a dance studio and the little kid was the daughter's child? Well anyway, she seemed to have the whole family shell shocked or something. I kept waiting for her husband to jump up and slap her sane. :rolleye0001: I didn't want to watch but couldn't stop. I felt like I was intruding on someones very personal nervous breakdown.

I didn't remember her name, Lucy, but it certainly looked like she was having a nervous breakdown, didn't it?
She seemed much calmer and nicer the second time she tried, and not quite so radical.

Maybe she took Prozac the 2nd time around. She was a lot calmer compared to her previous stint on the show.

I actually got picked for this show in 2005. They were looking for motocross familes. I applied never thinking I would win. My husband wouldn't do it after they came to talk to us. I was bummed. I wanted to do it. I was going to a family in New York with all girls who were into ballet. She was coming to my house, living in an RV at a mx track. She would have killed those boys. It was for a 10 day period. They only pay $5,000 (plus all expenses). But I wanted to do it for the adventure.

That's interesting. I've never talked to anyone who was actually picked for the show.
I thought they gave $50,000 or maybe I'm thinking of Trading Spouses, where the new mom gets to assign how to spend the money.
Do you mind telling us why your husband objected? Didn't he think she'd be good to your boys?

Unfortunately, whatever condition that caused her eyes to bug out so, didn't help her over all appearance either. She actually LOOKED unhinged when she got her "testifying" and cursing going at the same time. Then of course the dramatic gesture of tearing up the check was ruined when we read that she asked them to issue her another one.
Oh and another family that stands out in my mind is the hippy couple who had the two almost grown sons and everyone slept in the same room. The dad didn't want anyone out of his sight so the boys were never allowed to do kid things with their peers. I really liked those folks but they were strange, very strange.

I think I remember that one, too. Didn't the new mom give the oldest boy his own room in the basement, with his own entrance/exit?
I think I remember that one, too. Didn't the new mom give the oldest boy his own room in the basement, with his own entrance/exit? You may be right. I seem to remember his parents getting everyone back in the family bedroom after the families got back together. The main thing I remember about the family, other than the sleeping arrangement, was that they all played musical instruments. I always envy that part. Other than their to me, un natural togetherness they were fairly normal people. I don't remember anyone in the family working though.

I may be thinking of a whole different family, Lucy. I watched both Wife Swap and Trading Spouses, so they kind of run together sometimes.
My husband and I, married nearly 45 years, have always maintained what we call a 50/50 partnership. I feel sorry for some of those husbands, who have been conditioned to wait on the wife hand and foot while she lays in bed all day watching TV.

Yeah Trading Spouses pays more, and was actually sued by Wife Swap because of the theme. Wife Swap had it first. Anyway, my husband is a real mean and angry man. He hates everyone and everything. He said he didn't want to go on TV and made an ARSE out of himself. I didn't know why, everyone already knows he's an ARSE. I only have one son, but at the time I had 2 boys I had temorarily adopted. I have a very thick southern accent. The producers were eating it up. I still have the emails and correspondance. I even tried to rent a husband to do it, but they wouldn't let me do that. ha ha

Tonite's episode is: a doting mom who heartily endorses her daughter's involvement in beauty pageants swaps families with a feminist mother who homeschools her daughters to be strong, academic and independent. This should be interesting!

I think many of us would like to rent a husband at one time or another. :67302: Mine is easy going and sweet, but what can I say? They're all men.

Do you live near that family or town they're from?

I read the link you posted and when her mom had gotten back from that 1 show she did in the scene where she was ranting and raving about godlessness of the other family, Ashley said, "so you think it's all my fault." Her mother responded, "You did come to my mind."
I bet the girl's mother was hell on wheels to live with. I wonder if the father of the child fought for custody of the child. Nothing is shown. But then again, he might be worse then Marguerite. How horrible.
This link shows people who knew the girl thought she was always nice and smiling.

This story really saddens me. It sounds like she had many friends and students who really looked up to her. I hope the family is okay.

When I watched her mom on that show, I felt the woman has some very real emotional issues that didn't necessarily have anything to do with religion. I wonder how she is doing today. I'm sure her daughter's death hit her hard. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose a child that way since I have no children.
Wow.. what a show. I don't know about y'all but, I can't decide who's doing the most harm to their kids.
The beauty pageant kid was shallow and spoiled, but she was trainable. Her parents were really the ones that needed adjustments.
The 3 kids of the feminist, whew.. that baby looked miserable in every shot. The middle child was begging for attention, and the oldest girl was just kinda sad to me. Their clothes didn't look neat and clean, and the baby looked like an orphan most of the time. I really felt sorry for those kids. Their mom kept saying the beauty pageant girl didn't get to be a kid.. well, I didn't feel like her kids got to be kids.
Roamer
01-03-2008, 09:15 AM
I totally agree with you. None of the kids were allowed to be kids.
A tree up year round and giving her a present every day to show her how much they love her? And doing all her homework so she wouldn't have to waste her time with it? That young lady is in for some big surprises in the real world.
Even femnists clean their houses and cook meals, I'm sure. I hated the way she treated her husband, and let the poor kids go to school. These kids aren't ready for the real world, either.
And, again, you're right. It's the darned, crazy parents that promote this stuff.

What I couldn't figure out is, if the beauty queen's parents did all her homework, how would she ever pass any tests? I feel sorry for her, she's giving up her education for what? A few years of beauty pagents and glory that goes with it? Then what is she gonna do after that? Her parents should be ashamed, she will never be able to live on her own or support herself and God help any man that has to deal with her.

True. They are doing a lot of harm to this kid.
Sadder thing is, I know a lot of girls in the pageant circuit. Most that actually win, are very smart, productive girls that actually do a lot of community service work.
This girl must not be competing in any "real" pageants. The Miss America circuit actually looks for brains and community service. None of which this girl seems to have.

I didn't think her parents looked like pagent winners themselves. Looks will leave as you age. The sad thing is that not having looks and intelligence is setting the girl up for a hard life ahead. Even guys that have trophy wives with no intelligence, get tired of them sooner or later.
When mom and dad passes on, then what will Miss Pagent Princess do then?
This is really sad.

I wondered how she passed tests as well.
Here's something interesting though - the older girl in the feminest family - Kaitlyn maybe?- My 12 year old son was raving about her. I thought she was pretty, but he has such a thing for long haired girls with hoodies on. Also, she was studying latin vocab at some point, and he is taking latin as well. He wants to write her a letter. Oy.

Makes you wonder how hard they work to find complete opposites.
The husband that said he was just a big kid at heart, IMO was obnoxious and disgusting. At least he redeemed himself a little in the end.
The other guy finally broke down and showed he's able to give love and not just rules. I was glad to see that, mostly for the teenage son's sake.
I watch it because I am constantly amazed at the way other people live and believe.

That's why I watch it too... I find it amazing the way some people live and how extreme they can be in their beliefs. My BF said something last night about how extreme each family was - he asked where the normal people are. Well, obviously it would be a boring show if the people were "normal" (whatever that is!). :girl_haha:
I think the military wife was obnoxious & I would smack her if I had to deal with her for any length of time! Come to think of it, all 4 of them were pretty horrible. Usually there is one spouse out of the 4 that is a little likable!

Did you notice how red in the face that entire family was? I wonder if it was from eating raw meat????
I like this show. I think it's funny. What I DON'T like about it is when I see an extreme family and there are kids involved. Like last night?? The 14 year old boy was just hurting. I was glad that he and his step-dad ended up bonding in the end though. :1222423:

Girl, you are so right! Not a one of the 4 were likable!
I felt so sorry for the teenage boy. That kid was terrified of the dad. He didn't want to stray from his "normal" household rules, even on the mother's week because he was so afraid of that dad. He called him by his first name, was that his bio daddy or a step daddy? I never heard the reason for calling him by his first name, so I'm assuming it was a step dad.
And the obnoxious dad.. he slayed me the way he kept referring to blonde haired mother's weight. His wife was a big girl too. I think he found something that he thought he could use to hurt blonde wife and used it. Really immature of him, but then again, he was totally immature all the way around.
I could never do this show. One reason being, the kids are all used to the lifestyle they live. I wouldn't have the heart to go in and change everything they're used to doing. :(

The calling each other fat - ummm, hello??? Look in the mirror, people! Then he tells her he loves big women & wishes his wife would gain 200 more pounds. Thought I was gonna keel over laughing.

I've already decided I don't like the one mother on tonight's show, just from the commercials where she makes the little girl cry.
Looks like the family lives a clown type of life (don't know if they're professionals or what), and she tells the child how stupid it is.
Shoot, it isn't the lifestyle I'd choose, either, but this is a little girl she's talking to, and that's the only lifestyle she knows.

I'm tiring of the show's attempt to put two totally different structure families against each other. It's like okay - we get it!
Maybe they should take two Texas famlies that share the same beliefs and trade those wives, surely they wouldn't agree on everything. That might switch it up alittle and we'll see a different show for a change.

I just took this from Margeurite's myspace page. Looks like she's gonna be on Trading Spouses AGAIN.
Marguerite Perrin (born March 10, 1961) was a cast member of the FOX network reality show Trading Spouses, and appeared in the 2005 season premiere. She and her husband Barry live with their two daughters, Ashley and Brooke, and their granddaughter, Ashley's daughter Abigail. She's done it once again. On January 19, 2007, Fox will air the newest trade of Marguerite Perrin's family. Watch at 8:00pm CST. The conclusion of Trading Spouses, Marguerite style will be on January 26, 2007, at 8:00pm CST.

I predict she will end up with her own reality show.

What if they decided to switch the husbands or kids? Instead of the wives?

Oh and another family that stands out in my mind is the hippy couple who had the two almost grown sons and everyone slept in the same room. The dad didn't want anyone out of his sight so the boys were never allowed to do kid things with their peers. I really liked those folks but they were strange, very strange.
I remember that one.
I also remember the vegitarian family. The dad and kids refused to eat the gumbo or whatever the new wife had cooked due to their mothers beliefs and said she would be very upset. Then when the mother return she admitted she tried crockidile and her husband and kids were mad at her. She had made them promise not to eat meat and yet she did. They lost out on the experience of trying something new - and they told her they were mad. And she yelled at them and the son that she had every right to do it and I believe she grounded he son for speaking back to her.

I remember that one, Ro. She was very mean to the little boy (in the family she swapped with), IMO.

Switching the kids would be good, kids adapt much easier than adults. Good idea!

Did anyone watch last night? I hated both of the husbands.
One was a control freak and bragged about brainwashing his kids. The other was a whiney little wuss who laid in bed and cried because the new wife hurt his feelings. :67302:

Ya know I usually do watch, but last night I turned it on and thought "Nah, they are always the same story."
