BEAUFORT, S.C. -- Claims that a child's doll contains a pro-Islam message are continuing across the country and in South Carolina.
A Beaufort woman is one of the most recent to complain that a doll she bought for her daughters at a Wal-Mart says the phrase "Islam is the light" among its prerecorded baby noises.
Jennifer Calandra said she returned the first Fisher-Price Cuddle and Coo doll she bought, thinking it was a malfunction. But she said the second doll she bought said the same phrase.
People across the country have reported hearing similar messages.
Fisher-Price's parent company, Mattel Inc., issued a statement in October saying that the only scripted word on the doll's soundtrack is "Mama." The company conceded one of the doll's sounds may resemble the words "night, right or light" and that would be removed in future production.
On Snopes.com, a debunking site, researchers said that the rumor about the doll is unfounded. But on YouTube, there are several videos (http://www.wyff4.com/news/18388302/%20http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7uVFzBt9uE%20) posted that appear to show the doll saying questionable phrases.
Wal-Mart corporate spokeswoman Anna Taylor said the Beaufort store was removing the dolls from its shelves.

I used to work at Walmart. Last time I was there around Christmas a former co-worker saw me looking at dolls and showed me this one. She played it several times and had to tell me what it was saying but after knowing what it was it did sound like it was saying Islam is the light.

Our local paper had a story where someone (a good friend of mine who is on the school board) had purchased the doll and was contacting the company to complain. I called her, and she referred me to the same video. I will have to be honest here and say the voice on the video in no way matches what I heard when I went to Target and "played" with the doll. You really have to stretch your imagination to get an Islamic message from it. But, who knows...it could be a deliberate joke by some Islamic person who was working where the tape was made. This story is blown way out of proportion. No child is going to be converted to the Muslim faith by the garbled gobblydegook I heard when listening to the actual doll. One of the churches here made a big deal of it. With all the crime and sin in our community, you would think there were more things for them to get all worked up over. All I can say is that if nobody had told me about the "Islam message", I would have never, never, never thought that is what I was hearing. But, hey...whatever floats their panicky little boats.

I don't hear anything. I barely can make out the Mama part. LOL
Wasn't it just a few years ago that people were claiming Elmo dolls said something questionable?
Remember the uproar over "Satanic" messages on certain records if played backwards?

I actually did not listen to this one, I just saw the article again. Back before Christmas they interviewed the first one I heard about with the doll. I usually can't tell anything, but it was as plain as anything. Very easy to understand. I usually have to ask everyone, what did they say.

The puzzling thing is how you cannot hear anything really except babble when you have the actual doll in your hands. Yet on their youtube and whatever clips, you can hear it more clearly......hmmmmmm. Just call me suspicious of the fear mongers.

In my opinion this is just suggestive/group type thinking. Someone suggests they hear or see something and next thing you know you have several people saying they hear/see the same thing. Perfect example are the images of the Virgin Mary on everything from toast to Freeway underpasses. All it takes is one person suggesting it and suddenly there are others who see/hear the same thing. The power of suggestion is an amazing thing. This is just my opinion.

I worked one on one with these dolls for several weeks. They are motion activated so when I would walk by the shelves of dolls they did say something like "Islam is the light". Believe me....I probably walked by those dolls a hundred times and it was the same thing. It drove me absolutely bonkers. We not only had them on the shelves they were in the backroom too. Same thing.

Eventually T@rget recalled them and they sat on a cart in the back room. OMG those dolls never effing shut up. They were creepy and I am glad they are gone.

BUT...I do think it was power of suggestion. Once I heard it I could not un-hear it.

But come on now...It wasn't some kind of wicked game...

That is crazy, it really sounded like "Islam is the light". It may have been that I was expecting it though.

What you hear on the clip is NOT what you would actually hear from the doll. The doll is very garbled (baby talk). Much ado about nothing.

You have to experience the doll in real life...

I just realized the one at the top is the one I saw. Sounds clear to me. Just my opinion, now. I know everyone won't hear exactly the same thing. The only thing she is supposed to say is Momma.
