A search and rescue operation is under way for a 20-year-old at risk San Marcos man who may have gotten lost on the trails of San Elio Hills.
A San Diego County Sheriff's Department helicopter is being used in the search.
Volunteers are also looking for Derrick Post, 20, who has Down Syndrome. He was last seen about 2:45 p.m. Thursday.
Post's mother reported him missing about a half hour after he was dropped off outside their home on Glencrest Drive, sheriff's officials said.
Post was wearing a long-sleeved maroon shirt, khaki pants and black tennis shoes, Sheriff's Lt. Sylvester Washington said.
He was described as normally being friendly, but can get scared and tends to hide, a Sheriff's news release said.

SAN MARCOS ---- Search-and-rescue crews continued to look Friday morning for a developmentally-disabled man reported missing Thursday afternoon in the San Elijo hills, a sheriff's lieutenant said.
Derrick Post, 20, was last seen at 3 p.m., near Lighthouse Drive headed on foot northwest toward a hiking trail.
Authorities describe him as mentally equivalent to 7 to 10 years old. He is an Asian male, 4 feet 8 inches tall, 100 pounds with short, straight brown hair and brown eyes. He has partial facial hair on his chin and was wearing a maroon long-sleeve shirt, khaki pants and black tennis shoes, according to a sheriff's news release.
A sheriff's helicopter, canines and roughly 50 volunteer members of the Sheriff's Department search-and-rescue team scoured steep terrain looking for Post on Thursday, Lt. Larry Nesbit said.

Searchers announce they've located a 20-year-old man with the mental capacity of a child, who was missing for more than 24 hours.
Derrick Post was reported missing Thursday from his San Marcos home. Post, whose mental capacity is that of a child of between 7 and 10, was last seen walking on Lighthouse Drive Thursday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. He got off the bus from his special education program at San Marcos High School around 3 p.m., and instead of crossing the street to his mother, he headed for a trail into the nearby canyons where he's become quite a hiker and adventurer.
At approximately 4:45 p.m. Friday, an Astria crew located Post in a deep canyon near Discovery Lake.
A large force of Sheriff's Search & Rescue volunteers gathered at School House Way and High Bluff Ave Friday with canine units, getting help from ASTREA choppers, San Marcos Fire personnel and parks workers.
Post was described as friendly but someone who scares easily and tends to hide. He is 4'8" and 100 lbs, with short brown hair, brown eyes and partial facial hair on his chin. He was last seen wearing a maroon long sleeved shirt, khaki pants and black tennis shoes.

Authorities said a 20-year-old man with the mental capacity of a child was found on rugged terrain by Lake San Marcos Dam late Friday afternoon, a day after going missing from his San Marcos home.
Derrick Post, whose mental capacity is that of a child between 7 and 10 years old, was unhurt but probably dehydrated, said Sgt. Don Parker of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Post was taken to Pomerado Hospital.
A sheriff's helicopter crew spotted Post around 4:45 p.m., just east of the southern tip of Lake San Marcos, Parker said. The helicopter landed nearby and volunteers hiked over to Post and carried him back in a stretcher.
According to Parker, Post didn't talk much but clung onto the arm of a search and rescue volunteer who helped carry him out.
Post was described as friendly but someone who scares easily and tends to hide.
After Post was rescued, workers spotted another person nearby whose leg was broken. That person was unrelated to the search, but also was rescued, said Parker, who could not immediately provide any more details about the other person rescued.
