May I have your attention please? Would every one that started a 10-count tournament please register in all of the 10-count tournaments. As soon as a tournament has enough registrants it can be eliminated from the tournament’s waiting for players category.
At this point, all that needs to be done is to click on play the game, reload the page for as many games that are in that round, giving you a score of zero. I hope that everything will be eliminated due to no winner or lack of participation.if you would like taking a low score so that there is a winner in the tournament will be over Thank you

Did not know there was an "incentive package." Is that true?
Did not know there was an "incentive package." Is that true?
Basically----NO. There was a rumor at the end of last year that there'd be another round of checks after the first of the year like the $600/$1200 (max.) that they gave out last year.
The best info I have right now is that instead of giving cash away like a broken water line, the money will be spent on infrastructure projects to encourage additional employment.
Of course, once the plan gets through both houses of congress who knows what it'll be. You know the saying, "A giraffe is a horse built by a committee."

On weekends (crowds) I dash in and out of the local dollar store for cleaners, etc. I get tired of being run over or blocked by all the baskets on weekends. I am staying home and cooking a sort of soul food meal for my 91 yr. old mom who just got out of the hospital. She has been yearning for "old time" food. My cousin picked me a "mess" of greens from his garden. So, I am having to try and remember just how I used to season all the different veggies, etc. You lose the touch if you have not done it in a while. I used to take a soul food meal into my workplace for all the guys. It was a hit.

I've cooked plenty of soul food over the years as grew up on much of it. My mom liked it and cooked it for herself, so I would have it, too. She cooked other items for my dad and brothers. My son also cooks it for himself now and then.
There is a soul food cook-off here a week from today. I will try to go if the weather isn't fierce.

Good luck! All they ever have around here is BBQ and Chili cook-offs. I just turned it all off and it is waiting for the gang to get back. Word got out and my ex even called and asked me to save some for him. Now if I can just remember how I made that yummy cornbread. I always made it in a big iron skillet and browned it for a second on top of the stove before popping it into the oven, but I cannot remember for sure the exact measurements. I have some mix, but it is not the same.

Well, I grew up in OK. I'll give you my cornbread recipe if you want.
Cornbread just isn't as good if it didn't cook in an iron skillet! I guess I can't picture it how you could "...browned it for a second on top of the stove before popping it into the oven...". I always wait till it's done (the center pops back into place when you press on it lightly with a finger), then I turn the skillet upside down over a plate (the bottom looks so pretty and brown with the crust) then slide it back in the skillet bottom-side-up and put it BACK in the oven for a few minutes to make sure the top is browned lightly too.

My mom grew up in Arkansas and most of her cooking skills were learned there. She definitely had the requisite iron skillet for cornbread, but, she heated the skillet on top of the stove with a little bacon grease in it... heated until very hot then she poured the cornbread batter in to sizzle up a storm, then into the oven for less cooking time than if she hadn't done the top of the stove procedure.
I've always preferred the recipe on the yellow cornmeal box.

Not even sure how I learned she did that, because she wanted no one in the kitchen underfoot. When I married, I had to figure most about cooking by myself, but, as the years went by and I wanted to known certain things I would ask her. She never measured anything and it's not easy to calculate how much is 8 handsfull of flour... LOL My second husband taught me how to make gravy and he did not want any leftover to be discarded. Who eats cold gravy? He did!
She did teach me how to cut up a chicken and I used the information many times and thought it behooved me to teach my daughter the skill. Years later, I learned she never cut one up after that day. What??? :francis:

I always helped cook growing up because Mom worked and Daddy was sick. I did well I think. After we were married I remember one night I was so proud. My gravy turned out great! DH said, "Well, it should, you've made gravy every meal since we've been married". I should have disposed of him then. Then after several months, I made biscuits. Now that I look back I can't imagine why it took me so long. DH said, "Did you make these?". Yes, I said. "Well, I don't want any more of those old canned biscuits!" I knew then I had messed up. I once had a friend tell me she thought I was someone's grandmother reincarnated. I could not tell her how to make biscuits except to use a hand full of lard, about this much flour.etc.
And boy, Texanne, do I love a "mess of greens".

If you need a refresher on how to cut up a chicken, go to Youtube. Lots of demonstrations but none that I saw showed you how to cut it up and be able to get the wishbone. Or as we called it the pulley bone.

Morning everyone. Quiet day here. I have been having my coffee and watching blue jays, red winged blackbirds, goldfinch, cardinals, chickadees, wrens, etc gobbling up feed from my feeders (and off the ground).....plus woodpeckers on the trees. I am going broke buying bird seed this year. I think my feeders are so popular because they are hanging from shepards hooks with golf umbrellas attached to protect them from rain. The birds catch on that they can still hang out and eat while it is raining. My "mess" of greens turned out perfect yesterday, and even the grandsons ate them. Next year I am planting a fall garden because I am so jealous of my cousin's. Hope things are well with all of you.

If you need a refresher on how to cut up a chicken, go to Youtube. Lots of demonstrations but none that I saw showed you how to cut it up and be able to get the wishbone. Or as we called it the pulley bone.
Billie, if I forget how, then I'm in serious trouble. LOL And getting the pulley bone is having an important piece of chicken. Do ya reckon the commercial cutters decided not to use it and have fatter chicken breasts?

Morning, all.
Please take a minute and check out the Larry Swearingen thread under Death Penalty. Evidence shows this man's innocence, and he is to die in 15 days.
There's a link there to the Texas Governor's Office, and a lot of emails might help if, after reading the thread, you believe he is innocent.
Thanks!

You're welcome. Sunny and cold (relatively) here today too. My indoor/outdoor thermometer says it's 59* outside right now and 73* in, but something is wrong with my internal thermometer 'cause I'm cold!! I've always been the one who was too warm in most places during the winter but not this year for some reason!

No, they generally do not close schools due to temperature. BUT, the entire time I was growing up, my father did not allow us to go to school when it got really cold. He always said that the school could say whatever they wanted, his kids weren't going to wait for a bus in that.

58 degrees?!?!?!?!?
I'd be doing more than "nudge"ing that puppy!!! A not to gentle bump to no less than 68 degrees would be a MUST!
We have a programmable thermostat, and it's set to 58 or 60 during the day during the week, and after I lost my job I never reprogrammed it (seemed silly to do so when my income was lost). I bumped it up to 62 today and it helps a lot. I also have a neckwarmer and fingerless gloves I crocheted that I wear around the house, too.
Heck, the highest temp we have the thermostat set to is 68 - it comes on at 5:15 am for about 90 minutes, and again 4pm-10pm.

It was 26* here when I walked out to the garage. Brrrrrr!!! They were calling for snow tonight or tomorrow, but have since canceled it. If it's gotta be this cold, I at least want some snow. If we're not going to get any, then we can just move right on into Spring right now, please!!!
The cutest thing happened last night....
Holly has been trying to get Chloe to play with her, but Chloe just wouldn't. She would just walk away from her. Well, last night, Chloe decided to play back. It was adorable!!! Chloe was lying down the whole time they were playing, but she was growling & biting at Holly & pushing her over with her big 'ol head. Holly would go tumbling & hop right back up & go at Chloe again, yipping & jumping around her. Totally adorable. Chloe never once hurt her, so Holly felt perfectly comfortable playing with her. I was thrilled.... I have been waiting & hoping they would play eventually. Spike wouldn't play with Chloe. He'd get her going & as soon as she tried to play back, he'd run & hide under the coffee table. Chloe would be left standing there wondering what the heck happened!

Good luck to him, Claudia! Mine is working, but it's awfully slow right now.
I love it about your babies playing! I was hoping they would.
The first time Romy ever played with Jack, I ran for the camera, it was so danged cute! Jack is all sprawled out on Romy's back.
Raven puts up with Jack, but let them be playing and Romy cries, she's right there. She's raised Romy since he was about four months old, and he's almost 12, so he's her one and only baby. I guess she just decided Jack's going to live here, so she'll let him stay.
She's almost 17 now, and healthy as she can be, but every time she sleeps, I'm down there checking to make sure she's still breathing.
I'm totally over protective of all my babies, DH says. He loves them as much as I do, but he's always saying, "Hon, they're dogs. Let them be dogs."

I was really hoping so too, Roamer! Chloe loves to play, but like I said, Spike never would play with her & I am so glad Holly will! Of course, Holly is a complete nutcase. She is hands down the funniest puppy I have ever seen. She gets crazy... running around in circles all through the house. She likes to run across the couch, from arm to arm. The other day, she was going a little too fast & ran right off the end. Poor little thing... I couldn't help but laugh, though. She stood up & looked around as if she couldn't figure out what happened!
Roamer, I have found that since Chloe turned 9, I keep looking for something to be wrong with her. The last time we were at the vet, she called Chloe a "senior dog" - well, that did it - now I am completely paranoid. Even though most of my dogs have lived to be well in their teens, I find I worry about her constantly. I hate it, but I am terrified of losing her. The vet told me she was very healthy, but I am a worrier. :z0tdntknw:

Yeah, Chloe is white, so I can't see the grey in her muzzle, but her one brown ear, I noticed recently, has been looking less brown. It's starting to blend in with the rest of her more. :girl_sad:
Chloe still acts playful, too, but sometimes after she gets especially crazy, she ends up limping. Just a slight limp, and it goes away in an hour or two, but a few years ago, she could go all day & not get hurt or be sore from it.

Sometimes Raven can't get up without her back legs giving out. She just lays down for a minute and tries again. My heart aches every time that happens.
My three go in and out all day long (DH says I have them spoiled rotten), but yesterday I thought she was out and walked all over the yard looking for her (and it's a huge yard), almost crying, afraid she was out there and couldn't get up.
Finally I looked around the house again and she was laying beside DH' bed. I just knelt down and hugged her, and telling her how happy I was to see her, even though I know she can't hear a word I say anymore.

I can do that too, Roamer... just 30 minutes or so and I'm bright-eyed and bushy-tailed again. DH doesn't see it that way. He goes in after work to take a "nap" and he gets completely undressed, gets into the bed under all the covers and goes to sleep for a minimum of two hours... more if the dogs (or I) don't wake him up.

It sounds like your Raven is at about the same stage as my Maggie. Maggie is 13 now, virtually stone deaf -- which DH tries to deny saying she's just ignoring us -- and has a hard time getting up, especially on these laminate floors we had put in. I actually worry about DH when her time comes for the Rainbow Bridge.
When we first got the flooring and realized she had such trouble, we got some area rugs... especially a long runner in front of the couch where she prefers to lay. Last night she was across the room and tried to get up and slid back down. DH said, "We need to get a big rug for this room." And he says I spoil the dogs. :girl_haha:

I worry about my DH, too. He simply adores Raven, and she her daddy. I know he wouldn't let her suffer is she was bad off, but if she just leaves us sometime...it will break his heart completely.
LOL, none of mine prefer to lay anywhere. They all have their nice, comfy beds, and end up in them at night, but any other time they just sprawl anywhere they want, and we just step around them like the suckers we are.
Raven has gotten into the habit of laying between the kitchen and dining room in the late afternoons...about dinner time...so I'm handing him hot plates from the kitchen (over her) so I don't have to step over her with them in my hand. My balance isn't good, and I'm so afraid I'll spill something on her.
They really have us trained well, I'm telling you, but they're all really good babies and deserve all the love we can give them.

Oh we really are alike. All four of our dogs lay anywhere they want too, the doxies especially like to lay in my lap! When I sit in the recliner I end up with a doxie on either side, Harry curled up between my feet and Maggie on that runner in front of the chair and couch (they're sitting at an angle next to each other). In the evenings, John is usually in that chair and she's right there.
At night the little ones are in bed with us and Maggie goes back and forth between sides of the bed. When I have to get up in the middle of the night I have to turn on my book light to see where she is. She has grown up with me stepping over her but, like you my balance isn't what it used to be. She doesn't hear me coming anymore so I always have to touch her lightly to make sure she knows I'm there, then she just freezes in place so I can step over her. LOL

I had to put a flannel sheet over my comforter because the Boston and Chihuahua keep sneaking on my bed when the sun comes through the window and taking their "sun" nap. I forget to move their beds into the middle of the floor where THEIR sunshine can find them. I found it easier to keep throwing the flannel sheet into the washing machine than constantly checking to see who is napping on my comforter.

That's smart of you, Texanne. My daughter does the same thing.
When the kids were young, all our dogs (usually pits back then) slept with them, but when we moved to Florida in 1973 we only had Princess, and the sand fleas were so bad we had to make her stay off of everything.
Since then we haven't let them on the furniture. I'm a big dog person, so all mine are pretty good size, and they all shed like crazy.
Jack's a little smaller, but I've never let Raven and Romy on the furniture, so I can't let him, either. I wish I could let them sleep with me, but it's too late to start now, and I do make sure their beds are comfortable and clean. I'm feeling guilty sitting here typing this, believe it or not. :hide:

I love California weather.....especially the San Diego area. The only time I was ever uncomfortable was in September, when it was still a little warm at night.
My grandsons used to be Monster Jam freaks. We had Monster Jam birthday parties with each kid getting their favorite truck, etc. Now the younger two are getting into it, and we are having a Monster Jam party for the one turning 9, with all atendees going to the Monster Jam in Houston. They always had to have the pics with the drivers, autographs, etc. I will not go. I don't care for it, but will buy tickets, etc for the boys. I cannot believe we are going through the Monster Jam thing for the second time. lol

Mornin' Everyone!! It's COLD here in Louisiana, not supposed get past 40 degrees all day long and it's supposed to be in the teens tonight. The only good thing is there is no precipitation forcast and that's good news. When it rains when it's this cold here we have a problem with ice and I don't want to be without heat for sure. I'm really worried about my friends caught up in the mess up North, ya'll stay warm and safe if you have to be out and about.

Lord, it's awful here. -22 and the windchill is -44! We have to get to the store sometime today too, so I hope our vehicle will start. It is in a garage but with these temps, who knows?
Stay safe, everyone who is getting this weather. It's nothing to fool around with, that's for sure.
Someone sent a local channel a picture of their thermometer. It read, -54! Insane.

:0012:Good Morning! Ugh -22, Tam, I won't complain about 4 degrees now sounds like a blessing compared to your temp.
I have been in the dumps since getting home from FL, and this computer hasn't been working to great, so hope this post, posts.
Roamer, good news about your wv, must feel great, but you make me feel guilty cleaning, take it easy. I have been feeling a lot better but not motivated to get to the cleaning part! I would like to have a big auction and move out, like to FL permanently. :s1gyahoo: The SUN is a great incentive for me, and it isn't here.
Claudia, sending Good Luck wishes for you DH to get the job. :love0085:
I hate listening to the news anymore, there was something on a few mins ago about Bank of America going bad, so I turned it off. :sad0119:
I am going to throw some bread, apples and birdseed out today the little animals must be starving. Have a good one! :yes2:

I enjoyed going to see the monster trucks, too. Years ago when the boys were young we took them to the SuperDome... KC got a picture too, signed by the Big Foot people. He kept it on his wall till he moved out after college. I don't know what ever happened to it after that.
