BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC-TV MyFoxAL.com) -- The wife of Birmingham City Councilman Joel Montgomery was reported missing Tuesday morning.

The Birmingham Police Department said Cynthia Montgomery, 43, was last seen on Monday, January 12, 2009, at approximately 12:00 p.m. at her residence on 13th Avenue North.

According to a statement from Birmingham Police, Cynthia Montgomery was very depressed.

Joel Montgomery was not present at the Birmingham City Council meeting on Tuesday morning.

Cynthia Montgomery is described as a white female, 5’2” tall, 113 lbs., hazel eyes, red hair and a medium complexion.

Birmingham council man's wife tells police she's safe after being reported missing

Authorities searching for the missing wife of Birmingham City Councilman Joel Montgomery said she called Birmingham police and reported she is OK.

Cynthia Montgomery, 48, called the police department's Family Services unit about 10:15 a.m. to say she is not missing.

Police issued a lookout for Cynthia Montgomery about 9:45 a.m. after a missing persons report was filed.

Cynthia Montgomery has been battling depression, Birmingham police said today. She was last seen at noon Monday at their northeast Birmingham home.

Joel Montgomery is not at today's City Council meeting.
