By North County Times | Tuesday, January 13, 2009 7:23 PM PST ∞
VISTA ---- An 84-year-old man with Alzheimer's disease was reported missing from a retirement home Tuesday afternoon, a sheriff's lieutenant said.
Chester Gardener disappeared about 4:50 p.m. from Cedar Manor Homes at 350 Cedar Road, Sheriff's Department Lt. Mike Munsey said.
The lieutenant described Gardener as 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, wearing gray pants and a long-sleeve green shirt.
A sheriff's helicopter, search-and-rescue volunteers and dogs were deployed to look for the missing man, he added.
Anyone with information about Gardener's whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at (858) 565-5200.
Munsey urged anyone who spots the man to proceed cautiously, as people with Alzheimer's can be easily scared if approached. He said to keep an eye on the man and call authorities.
