SPRING HILL, Fla. (AP) - Hernando County authorities say an elderly man suffering from dementia has returned home.

Authorities issued a Silver Alert for 66-year-old Ronald Gagliano Wednesday morning. He had been last seen in his Spring Hill home.

The Sheriff's Office said Gagliano drove safely back home Thursday morning after reaching Georgia and turning around. Spokeswoman Donna Black said it was not clear why Gagliano drove to Georgia, but he appeared confused when he was found at home.

Florida's Silver Alert program was established last fall. It's designed to help find missing seniors with cognitive disabilities and is modeled after Amber Alerts used for missing children.
