Thank God this man did the right thing, and brought Elijah to a safe place. I wonder how the man came to have the child....and I pray the mother is found safe. Sounds like a very troubled young woman. My thoughts and prayers go out to this young mother, baby Elijah and his future, and their family and friends.

Missing Needville Infant Dropped Off By Stranger At Northeast Houston Fire Station

January 15th, 2009 | by Bob Dunn | Published in News

http://www.fortbendnow.com/2009/01/15/34825

A Needville-area infant missing since Monday along with his motheer was dropped off at a Houston fire station Thursday morning “filthy” and in “fair condition.”

The mother, Sonia Diane Quintanilla, 30, of Beard Road near Needville, still is missing.

Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office officials say 6-week-old Elijah Ray Farris was dropped off by an “unknown male” at Houston Fire Station #34, in the 3100 block of Laura Koppe.

Now in the custody of Texas Child Protective Services, workers there described the infant “as being filthy with a soiled diaper but in fair condition.”

The fire station where the infant was dropped off is near U.S. 59 and Tidwell Road in northeast Houston. On Wednesday, sheriff’s detectives said that’s the area where they believed they might find Quintanilla, who a sheriff’s spokeswoman said has a history of drug use and “leaving for short periods of time.”

Quintanilla and her young son had been missing since Monday morning, when she supposedly had left her home to take the baby to the doctor’s.

The sheriff’s office issued an Amber Alert Wednesday after Quintanilla’s family members told detectives they were extremely concerned for the baby’s safety, especially because it appeared the mother had not taken any food, clothing or diapers for the baby.

Although Quintanilla still is missing, the sheriff’s office has cancelled the Amber Alert. “She’s an adult,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Terriann Carlson said. “The main concern was the baby.”

Carlson said CPS will take the baby for a medical check-up and possible treatment today. She also said the baby’s father has been notified, and “is working with CPS.”
