DEMOCRAT STAFF REPORT • January 18, 2009
http://www.tallahassee.com/article/20090118/NEWS01/901180335
The Madison County Sheriff's Office has released the name of a woman found dead in a wooded part of the county Thursday.
Marilyn Harris, 52, of Leon County, was found near Pettis Springs Circle between the Aucilla River bridge on U.S. Highway 90 and Greenville, according Maj. Bill Bullock of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
The cause of death has not been released. Investigators have said they are unsure whether foul play was involved and are therefore treating the case as a homicide.
Her truck was found in western Jefferson County on Wednesday night, Bullock said. At the time, law enforcement had no report of Harris being missing.
"We just treated (the discovery of the truck) as a suspicious incident," Bullock said.
Then, hunters found her body Thursday morning and called for help.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement also is assisting.

Madison County sheriff's deputies are looking for two people of interest in connection with the death of a southern Leon County woman found in a wooded area of Madison County.

The truck's driver was described as black, between 40 and 50 years old, 5-foot-2, weighing 150 pounds, and having a thin build, medium complexion and no facial hair. He was last seen wearing a canvas-type jacket, jeans, a medium-toned ball cap and black work shoes. A sketch was made of the driver.

Selena Vinzant, 37, a longtime friend and one-time neighbor of Harris, was stunned to read about her death in the newspaper.
"She was a very sweet, kind-hearted woman," Vinzant said. "She would do anything to help people."
Harris, who used to be a state employee, never got over the death of her husband, who was killed in a car crash about 15 years ago, Vinzant said. The last time Vinzant saw Harris, about a month ago, Harris spoke about troubles she was having.
