I hope authorities at the borders have been alerted. But, hope they are spotted before they make it to a border. What matters is this child's safety and not whether she went willingly, this woman took her without parental consent.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office found a missing 14-year-old girl just after 7:30 a.m. Friday -- about one hour after Ogden police had issued an Amber Alert.
Deputies took 22-year-old Ana Avalos into custody and transported both her and the endangered teen, Reyna Elizabeth Santelices, to the county jail.
Ogden police had warned the public that the pair could be heading south toward Las Vegas, Reno, Nev., Bakersfield, Calif., or Mexico.
The Amber Alert was issued early Friday after Santelices' father woke up and found his teen girl missing from the family home. The girl had left a note explaining that "she had to do what she needs to do in her life," said Ogden Lt. Scott Connelly.
The family took in Avalos about four months ago because she had lost her job and "fallen on dire circumstances in her personal life," Connelly said.
Police say the teen has an emotional relationship with Avalos and went willingly with the woman.
"This is one of those situations where the Amber Alert did its job," Connelly said, adding that the situation fit the description of a non-traditional kidnapping. "We'll be dispatching officers down [to Washington County] immediately."

WHAT??? Ok. Here is my question. If the parents were aware of this "emotional relationship" and it seems to me that they were.....WHY were they still allowing this woman to live in their home? I don't get people sometimes. JMO

Sometimes when people try to help others out, it seems to back fire on them. If I still had children at home I would be so very careful about who I let stay with us. It is really sad when we try to help others and they turn on us it becomes really hard to be charitable after things go back. I am so glad this 14yo is safe.

ST. GEORGE - An Amber Alert issued at 6 a.m. Friday for a 14-year-old girl from Ogden, was canceled about an hour later.
A 22-year-old woman travelling with the juvenile and was stopped by the Washington City Police Department.
"Just a little after 7 a.m. a motorist heard on the radio the Amber Alert. As chance would have it the car (with the juvenile and woman) passed him on the freeway," said Lt. Ed Kantor with Washington City police.
The motorist contacted local authorities and Washington City along with St. George and Hurricane Police Departments and the Washington County Sheriff's Office assisted with the traffic stop.
Lt. Scott Conley, Ogden City Police Department, said a 14-year-old girl left her parents' home Friday morning with Ana Avalos, 22. Police are looking at a possible charge of kidnapping.
"Although the 14-year-old appeared to have gone willingly and even left a note for her parents saying she needed to go off and live her own life, she's not old enough to consent," Conley said.
He added the juvenile met Avalos after her parents took her in four months ago because she lost her job.
"During that time a relationship started between Avalos and the girl," Conley said.
He said the parents were concerned about the nature of the relationship their daughter had with Avalos, which triggered the eminent danger warning.
Conley said the parents argued with the girl and Avalos Thursday night about their alleged physical relationship. The argument is what caused the pair to allegedly leave.
After being stopped Avalos was taken to Purgatory Correctional Facility until Ogden police officers could come pick her up and return her for booking in Ogden.
The juvenile was placed in the custody of Division of Child and Family Services until her parents could come get her.
"The victim appeared to be in good health and doing all right at the time of the stop," Kantor said.

Woman held in connection with disappearance of teen

OGDEN -- A 22-year-old woman who attempted to flee the state with a 14-year-old Ogden girl has been charged with several felonies connected with the disappearance of the girl last week.
Ana Avalos has been charged with sodomy of a child, a first-degree felony, kidnapping and sexual abuse of a child, both second-degree felonies.
Avalos was arrested in Southern Utah Friday after an Amber Alert was issued for Reyna Santelices, a Mound Fort Middle School student who disappeared from her family home during the night. Avalos was transported from Washington County and booked into Weber County Jail on Friday evening. Her bail has been set at $40,000.
A motorist spotted the two driving in front of him on Interstate 15 immediately after hearing the alert on the radio and called police.
The two were stopped in Washington County and taken into custody by Washington County law enforcement agencies.
Avalos, an acquaintance of an acquaintance of the family, had bounced around California and Nevada before landing in the family's Ogden home about four months ago, said Ogden Police Lt. Scott Conley Friday.
"They took her in due to financial instability," he said. "She'd lost her job and didn't have housing."
Police said Avalos stayed with the family for about four months and developed an emotional relationship with the juvenile during that time.
That relationship caused "the juvenile to make inappropriate or unsafe decisions on her own behalf," Conley said.
Reyna Santelices' parents confronted Avalos Thursday evening after learning their daughter hadn't been attending school, said Christopher Santelices, her older brother.
At about 4 a.m. Friday, the juvenile's father discovered she'd cleaned out her closet during the night and fled, leaving a note indicating she "may be making a mistake, but she's going to take on her own life."

Six-month sentence for aiding runaway
By TIM GURRISTER
March 26, 2009
Standard-Examiner staff
tgurrister@standard.net
OGDEN -- What started out as an Amber Alert kidnapping concluded Wednesday with a six-month jail term for unlawfully providing shelter to a runaway.
Ana Avalos, 22, was also suspected of some kind of forcible sexual attack on a 14-year-old girl in the Jan. 16 incident, but the eventual charge amounted to a class A misdemeanor count of attempted unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
The sheltering-a-runaway charge is also a misdemeanor, a long way from the expected charges listed on Avalos' jail booking sheet of sodomy of a child, a first-degree felony, and kidnapping and sexual abuse of a child, both second-degree felonies.
The former could have meant a possible life prison term and the latter up to 15 years.
Avalos was sentenced Wednesday to the six months in Weber County Jail with work release. She was credited for the 68 days she'd already spent in jail.
Her initial bail of $40,000 had been reduced to $5,500 when charges were finally filed.
Avalos was headed to her home state of California with the 14-year-old when she was arrested about four hours after the Amber Alert was issued.
A motorist spotted the two driving in front of him on Interstate 15 immediately after hearing the alert on the radio and called police. The two were stopped in Washington County and taken into custody by law enforcement agencies there.
An acquaintance of the 14-year-old's family, Avalos had bounced around California and Nevada before landing in the family's Ogden home jobless and needy about four months earlier.
She and the girl developed an emotional relationship that caused "the juvenile to make inappropriate or unsafe decisions on her own behalf," police said.
The 14-year-old had cleaned out her closet during the night and fled with Avalos. She left a note indicating she "may be making a mistake, but she's going to take on her own life."
An Amber Alert was issued.
"I don't think police were told about the note," Avalos' public defender, Bernie Allen, said after the hearing.
"The whole case was overstated with the Amber Alert and everything, although it showed the Amber Alert works."
But once prosecutors looked into the case, they saw "a kidnapping charge wasn't appropriate -- the girl has asked (Avalos) to take her with her," Allen said.
And, he said, the ages and circumstances didn't fit the forcible sexual offenses that made it onto Avalos' jail booking sheet, but fit the official complaints filed in 2nd District Court.
"In my view, the case was negotiated satisfactorily."
