No one has complained about not being able to login today, Billie. You may need to clear your cookies and cache. I hope you get your laptop fixed soon. It probably just needs reformatting. I got mine done back in July and it runs top notch.

I had already done that. I can't get it to load private messages. I don't know what is wrong. If it was my old laptop it would be different. This is a rather new, much nicer laptop than mine. I'll try to find out what's going on. If no one else has a problem it couldn't be the site.

I have no clue what could be wrong, Billie. The security settings may be set too high.

Checked that again tonight. Got rid of cookies again. To get to this site several times I had to go to Google, put in Help Find the Missing, click on the main page and then click on forum. Still, several times it still would not let me sign in. Always would say name or password were wrong. Five tries then wait 15 minutes to try again. Just then, it had been about an hour since trying and came right to the sight. Beats the heck out of me. If I didn't know better since I am using DH's computer, I'd think he had us blocked. I know he doesn't even know how to send email without help so I know blocking a web site isn't his expertise. That may be mispelled because there is not spell check downloaded. It won't download. I'm going back and put the security on low. Thanks for the help.

I don't know that you can block a website, Billie. If So, I don't know how. When I go to some sites like Scared Monkeys my virus alert pops up and sounds like a siren telling me there was a virus on there site. I have the option to "get me out of here" but nothing to block a website.

Q- I can visit a lot of web sites on the internet without a problem. But a few simply don't work. The strange thing is that they work for other people, or from other machines. What's going on?

Thank you for all of your help and your time. I know what you mean, I just did system restore AGAIN on his, moving it back 3 weeks. I won't change anything else. Right now I have to figure out about DH's. Where it has three options with pics of computers, wirelss, etc. I'm not sure which one is what. One has a red X and I don't know if I changed it or not. I sure hope my old clunker can be repaired! I won't even complain about the letter's popping off. Not have a spell chek on either of these drives me crazy because I know how I am with spelling now days. On mine, even on the tool bar I can click edit and get a dictionary.
Jamie's is Vista, DH's is Windows XP.
I will check the links you listed. Thanks again.

Billie, I know it's not good to keep restoring a new date, I don't know "why" but was told that by a tech once. He told me but I CRS now.

You can add spell check back to a computer, I did once. What is the OS system in DH's puter?

If It's XP go here.

The latest and and IMO worst update for Windows, caused my family computers on all our computers. I don't know exactly what the update did but in laymans terms it screwed things up.

I've heard that IE 8 was trouble. I didn't realize until today that IE 6 was on here, I downloaded 7.

Icon91 Dear Billie :)

I have some suggestions for you to try - they're safe, reversible, and highly rated. Also FREE!!

First is Eusing Free Registry Cleaner 2.5.1
Your registry is probably clogged with gunk. All this gunk can really affect how your computer works. Windows only cleans to a limited degree (registry and cache.) Eusing automatically backs up changes, CCleaner asks if you want to back up changes - which you do. I would run Eusing first simply because it does a much more thorough job of cleaning your registry. I'm pretty sure you'll fall of your chair when you see what these programs do.

Quote:
Eusing Free Registry Cleaner is a free registry repair software that allows you to safely clean and repair registry problems with a few simple mouse clicks. The Windows Registry is a crucial part of your PC's operation system.

Problems with the Windows Registry are a common cause of Windows crashes and error messages. Registry problems can occur for many reasons, including references left behind after uninstallation; incorrect removal of software; missing or corrupt hardware drivers; or orphaned start-up programs. This will significantly increase the Registry size and slow down your computer, because Windows will need more time to load, search, and read data from the Registry.

Eusing Free Registry Cleaner will scans your Windows registry for invalid or obsolete information and provide a list of the errors found. After fixing the invalid entries, your system will be more stable and run faster. For maximum safety, Eusing Free Registry Cleaner will make a backup of the repaired entries. You will be able to restore any changes made using the software by choosing Restore registry backup. Eusing Software products are free of spyware and adware.

Key Features
* Safely scan your entire Windows registry for invalid or obsolete information
* A simple, user-friendly interface with which you can safely repair invalid entries in your Windows Registry
* Make your computer faster by cleaning your Windows registry
* Improve your Windows PC’s overall performance and stability
* Rind Windows Registry keys left over from deleted files or uninstalled applications
* The automatic backup creation of the repaired registry entries
* 100% Spyware FREE, NOT contain any Spyware, Adware or Viruses

Eusing Free Registry Cleaner will clean up your Registry by finding

* Missing Shared Dlls
* Unused File Extension
* Invalid ActiveX
* Invalid Help Files
* Invalid Paths
* Sound and App Events
* Obsolete start menu order
* Invalid Fonts
* Invalid application paths
* Invalid startup programs
* Invalid custom controls
* Missing Shortcut reference
* Obsolete Software Key
* Invalid Installer reference
* Missing File and Folder
* And Much More...

More Feature Details

CNET's review is Here

==========

CCleaner (CrapCleaner ) This program really cleans your "junk" out. It has 2 functions: "Run Cleaner" and "Registry" - it will ask you whether you want to back up registry issues that will be deleted, be sure you do. I've never had a problem, but I back it up anyway.

Quote:
CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :)

CNET editors' review

Reviewed by: CNET Staff on November 07, 2008

Although it lacks a few of the bells and whistles found in other PC-cleaning applications, this free program offers more than enough features to make it a worthy download. CCleaner's interface is logically designed and makes it easy to wipe away your tracks from Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Google Chrome from various Windows system areas, and from some third-party applications.

CCleaner doesn't support the large number of extraneous programs that some competitors do, but it can erase traces from such popular programs as Spybot - Search & Destroy and WinZip. CCleaner now offers secure file erasing along with a Registry-cleaning utility that quickly scans for invalid entries before removing them. CCleaner can even back up your Registry before removal, in case it accidentally removes a crucial component, and the download includes a rudimentary feature for uninstalling any program on your machine.

Since this free application handles the majority of PC-cleaning chores and offers a nice extra, we strongly recommend CCleaner to all users, except those who need robust tools to remove supersensitive data.
You can download CCleaner either from the site or CNET.

You might also want to try Firefox. I used IE for years and finally got sick of all the crashes - Firefox leaves IE in the dust (IMO, of course :) You can have 2 browsers on your computer, BTW.

Just some thoughts. I'd hate to see you throw that laptop against the wall.
