From Kelsey's mom.

Wednesday, November 4, 2009 10:36 AM, CST
Good morning friends and family. This is just a quick little update. You'd think just sitting back here I'd have all the time in the world to keep you updated but honestly it's so busy and so many in and out and all around it's difficult to cull out a few minutes. Kelsey is doing amazingly well this time . I keep trying to compare milestones with her recovery from last surgery and I forget that they are so vastly different. This surgery was much longer, more difficult and more complicated. She is such a strong and brave little girl. Her faith and smile and spirit never waver. She is still sleeping but they have taken her off of the pain meds. She was sore this morning and they gave her something. They also pulled out a tube and she has 5 more to come out sometime in the next day or so. Hopefully this afternoon. Will stay in PICU for a while longer before going to 5th floor. I can't say enough how wonderful everyone here has been to us. They really do become part of your family. Will update more as things happen. I am in awe of the support of all kinds from friends and strangers alike that we have been shown. Thank you.
Love in Christ, Carolyn

Kelsey's good and steady recovery is wonderful news! Kelsey and her family will remain in my thoughts and prayers, and "Kelsey's candle" will glow in my house until she has made a full recovery from her transplant surgery.

Another note from Kelsey's mom tonight.

Kelsey had a very productive day today. The AR tube was removed, (not sure what AR stands for but Kelsey said it definitely isn't Accelerated Reader!) The main line was removed and the foley catheter was removed. She was awake most of the afternoon and sitting in the chair. We even played a game of Uno Spin. The doctors are so impressed!

Unfortunately she is off to a bad start for the night. She is in a lot of pain and has even asked for pain medicine. She never asks for it so we know she's hurting. She's trying so hard to stay brave but it is beginning to take its toll on her. The past 7 months are catching up to her. I'm asking for specific prayers for peaceful rest and healing. The next few days her body is going to need tremendous strength as she is going to have to be up and mobile to continue the healing process. Her ribs are extremely painful and tonight every movement and breath seems excruciating to take.

Despite all of the pain, she is on the road to recovery, and we do expect to be home soon.

Thank you all so very much for your nice words and continued prayers. Kelsey's mom is amazing, always has been.

I pray the pain Kelsey has will cease very soon. I'm sure she is very sore.

I pray that Kelsey's pain be greatly eased until she comes to pain-free days. I pray that she may sleep peacefully and awake rested with her strength regained. I want her doctors to be amazed at her quick recovery as I'm amazed at the courage and good humor displayed by one so young.
