A note from Kelsey.

Thursday, November 12, 2009 10:33 AM, CST

I am so excited! I get to start school work with Mrs. Arrington today. It will feel so good to do work with her. I feel normal a little bit now. Thank you Jesus for making it be able for me to do it. Thank you Dr. Merrill and Dr. Gaymes and Dr. Shores and all of my nurses and Dr. Abeid too. I love you all so much. But I am sad that I don 't still get to see you everyday.

Hasn't really been anything to report. It has been a loooong day and we are exhausted. Spent the day in Jackson at the doctor's office. She is still doing good. Still continues to heal. She has got to pick up her weight. She's losing a pound or so every couple of weeks. Daily chocolate milkshakes are not helping. Any suggestions out there? Her heart needs to get stronger and it will in time. We know this because that is our prayer to Father God and He always answers our prayers - in His time. So we wait patiently with Faith. She's disappointed that she can't go back to school until sometime after Christmas but she won't let it get her down. We thank you all for your continued love and prayers and support. Happy Thanksgiving to all! I know I have many blessings to be thankful for. First and foremost that I have a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ that can be compared to no other! He is always faithful to refill me. Thankfully, His source of renewal is never-ending:)

Kelsey...

I'm not sure if you still have access to reading your thread...but I know this message will get to you.

I just finished reading about you and I wanted to tell you that you are the strongest, most courageous 11 year old I've ever seen. You are beautiful and mature beyond your age.

I don't know you but I can sincerely say...I'm very proud of the way you handled all this trauma in your young life. God has guided the doctors in helping you to a speedy recovery. I hope everyday is getting better and better.

You have a long life ahead of you, Kelsey. Many people will be thinking of you and God will continue to hold you in the palms of his hands and guide you.

This virtual Internet rock concert was just for you. Hehe...I hope you like it! Take care, sweetie, and continue to get better.

Sierra

That really was! Just precious.
Faith, when my oldest was too under weight to play Y football they said to feed him bananas and chocolate milkshakes. Another friend was having trouble trying to gain weight so her doctor said to put peanut butter in her milkshakes for extra calories and protein. I would think peanut butter and bananas in a milkshake would be good. Sure sounds good to me.
After my surgery the surgeon said my protein level was low to eat as much protein as possible and if I needed to mix protien powder with a protein drink like ensure. Jamie loves chocolate ensure.
Maybe that will help little Kelsey to gain weight. I know she is trusting in God as is her Mother. I know they will be fine.

If Kelsey is able to eat them, Ritz with peanut butter has lots of carbs and calories.

This is from www.ehow.com How to gain weight. Never searched that before.

Step 1
Eat nutritious foods that are high in calories. Examples are whole-grain breads, vegetables such as avocados and potatoes, kidney beans, lean red meat, poultry and fish.
Step 2
Increase the caloric value of your meals. Add powdered milk to casseroles for added calories, add avocados and olives to sandwiches, add wheat germ to your cereal, add chopped meat to your pasta sauce, and so on.
Step 3
Avoid skipping meals. Knowing how to gain weight involves consistent eating. Eat three meals a day and at least two snacks.
Step 4
Increase your normal portion size. Take a second scoop of pasta, or add two bananas to your oatmeal.
Step 5
Choose higher-calorie foods when given a choice. For example, corn is higher in calories than green beans.
Step 6
Relax - excessive fidgeting and restlessness can burn up a lot of calories.
Step 7
Add weight lifting to your exercise program. It helps build muscle mass.
Step 8
Balance your caloric intake with the number of calories you're burning. You need to be taking in more than you use up, and you may need to ease up a little on your exercise program.

Kelsey will gain weight. Her mom is an awesome cook and she will have the opportunity to go to any fast food restaurant in town. She's just been so sick it will take a while to gain it back. Once she can go back to school after Christmas and has her routine back I think she will pick the weight back up slowly.

Thank's all for your continued prayers.
