Police need your help in finding a missing man from Lawrence County, KY.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office says 29-year old Joseph “Tommy” Spurlock was last seen December 14.

The sheriff says Spurlock called his wife that day around 1:45pm to say he was at a Paintsville motel waiting on a ride. Earlier that day, he told his grandmother that he had to meet someone at the foothills substation in Fallsburg for a ride.

The sheriff says no one has heard from him since. Family members reported him missing on January 8.

Spurlock is 5’6”, 165 pounds with brown hiar and blue eyes. He has tattoo of an eagle on his right upper arm. The sheriff told a local newspaper that Spurlock has 2 missing front teeth the result of fight that happened in Portsmouth, OH. He also says that Spurlock is employed as a fiber-optics installer, which takes him to numerous cities around the country.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff at 606-638-4368

Posted by: emma hello this is Emma Spurlock the wife of Joseph Thomas Spurlock. First off, me and his family tried to file a missing person report on him earlier, however the Kentucky State Police would not file it. They said he didn't fit the criteria and they was nothing they could do. At this time we had already been calling everyone we knew, calling jails, hospitals, and friends. We was advised that they was nothing that the police could do. When we went to the Lawrence County sheriff dept. in Louisa Ky. where we are originally from they then agreed that the missing person report could be filed. They to didn't understand why the KSP didn't do anything. However the Louisa sheriff had done great things, and really has tried to find him. I have been informed that he is okay by the police he has been in Lex. Ky. recently. They wont drop the report though until he comes in. But has been found, and I guess he was the one that didn't give a damn about his faily[sic].

I noticed that several family members mentioned drugs in the comments. I'm thinking maybe this is his history?
Whatever the reason I hope Tommy lets someone know that he is ok.

Posted by: kaye hello family of Tommy Spurlock, i am a person that had seen Tommy the whole week before Christmas at the ST JOE. hospital in lex Ky. My father in law was seriously ill in the ICU, i met Tommy in the ICU waiting room, he said that his car was broke down and he was waiting on his dad to come and pick him up, but his dad could not pick him up til later on in the week. He had been sleeping in the ICU waiting rooms the whole time. He told me that he had worked on the fiber optic lines in my area, but he was working for NorthFolk Southern Railroad and he could get my brother in law a job, so he wrote down all the info for me and phone numbers and all and then signed his name Tom Spurlock to the paper he had wrote...that is how I reconized the missing person flier on the Goodwill store window, (by the way that phone # is wrong you all have 4369...but i called the ksp and got the right number, which is 4368. I then called the Lawrence Co. sheriff and told him all that I know yesterday the 18th.

Posted by: kaye anyway, if i had known that he was missing, i sure would have called the sheriff then. I'm really sorry for all that your family is going through, He did tell me he had a wife and child at home, i told him at least he was going to make it home for Christmas and that is the last time I saw him 2 days before Christmas....I hope this helps...and god bless my prayers are with you all.
Sounds as though he was trying to get home.

More comments regarding Tommy Spurlock;

Posted by: Anonymous I have known Tommy Spurlock's family for yrs, his mother used to work for me, a better family you will not find. I have been in touch with the family recently, they DID try to report him missing to the KSB and they received NO help until they went to the Lawrence Co. Sheriff's Dept. None of us know what is going on in Tommy's mind, we have no idea what he has been going through, so to say he cares nothing about his family is not really fair. Also, his family is doing all they can to find him. We could all be in this same position some day, we cannot control what our children do. So, I think everyone should quit posting negative comments, and pull together to try and help this family. Remember this could be any of us going through this some day, so let's all do what we can to help find Tommy and take it from there. I am praying for this family every day, and I am keeping my eyes and ears open. I am praying for a good outcome for everyone involved.

Posted by: kaye sorry, i'm not a man, i'm a woman....but anyway when I seen Tommy Spurlock at st. joe he was all alone all that week, no woman or anyone else was with him that i could tell...i don't know if he was on drugs or not, but he was telling me how he could not believe that so many people were destroying their lifes with drugs....i hope he will soon come home, he looked so tired and worn down...i'm still praying for this family, my heart goes out to them.

Posted by: tommy's sister in law to the man that wrote in about calling the police to report where he was thank you,how sad to have a wife and child and be sleeping in the icu waiting area,what is wrong with this pic.? i have known tommy way before he married my sis,to think that drugs or whatever would ruin a man's life the way it has his is sad. i don't hate tommy,i have spent many nights worried about him but i don't understand him, christmas came and went no word,so if he chose to live on the street or sleep in hospitals, waiting rooms,instead of being a husband and father,well..... as a sister, i see my sis hurt and worry what he put his mom and dad ,wife,son through it's horrible!and he STILL HASN'T CALLED! his mom and dad are such good people,if he didn't want to talk to my sister he still should have called them,the fact is a month later still no word he doesn't want to be found.....my hopes are one day he will grow up and be a father his son deserves.

Posted by: Anonymous people i am sure this man and leagh hickman are two different case!!!!! both families have been through enough!!! let it go!!!!!!

Sheriff Garrett Roberts tells wsaz.com that Spurlock checked into a Lexington hospital Sunday night to be treated for a gum disease. Roberts says he then spent Monday night at a church shelter in Lexington.
