EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso police need your help to find 3-year-old Jaylin Talamantes.

Police said she was taken from her home in the 400 block of Schutz Wednesday evening.

They believe she may be with a Hispanic man with black hair. He was seen wearing blue jeans and a blue sweater with a white and red strip across the chest.

The second person is described as a Hispanic woman with black or brown hair, and a light complexion.

She was last seen wearing an orange shirt with blue jeans.

The kidnapping suspects left in a charcoal gray, 4-door Ford F-150 pickup truck.

A 3-year-old girl was kidnapped Wednesday evening from her home in the Kennedy Brothers Memorial Apartments in the Lower Valley, police said.

Police said they searched late into the night for Jaylin Marie Talamantes, who was last seen shortly before 5 p.m. at home with her stepmother in the housing complex at 447 S. Schutz off Zaragoza Road, said police spokesman Javier Sambrano.

Jaylin has blue eyes, light brown hair and a light complexion.

She was last seen wearing pink pants, a beige shirt with purple flowers and purple slippers.

Police said the girl was forcibly taken from the home.

Sambrano told KTSM-TV Thursday morning that the child was taken by a man and a woman after they broke into the apartment and assaulted Jaylin's

The female suspect, he said, is believed to be Jaylin's biological mother. In a press statement, the biological mother was identified as Monica Iglesias, 24.

"Due to the violence involved, it's a concern for us and we requested the Amber Alert," Sambrano told KTSM-TV during a live interview. "Our concern is that Jaylin is ok," he said.

Sambrano said a statewide Amber alert was requested, but denied by state officials because the case did not meet the criteria for state Amber Alerts.

Nonetheless, a local Amber Alert was issued late Wednesday while detectives continued their search in El Paso for the child.

Sambrano said the pair are believed to be from Borger, Texas near Amarillo.

The male suspect is identified as Daniel Escobar, 25. He is described as 6 feet 2-inches tall, 230 pounds and dark complexion. He wore a blue sweater with white and red stripes across the chest.

The pair left in a charcoal gray four-door Ford F-150 pickup.

EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso police have issued a local Amber Alert in an effort to track down the abductors of a 3-year-old El Paso girl. Authorities said they believe the abductors may have taken her to Borger, Texas, near Amarillo.

The family of Jaylin Marie Talamantes spoke exclusively to KFOX Thursday morning about the violent abduction that happened Wednesday around 5 p.m. at the Kennedy Apartments.

Jaylin’s stepmother, Brenda Solis, said a man knocked on the door and asked if her husband Jesus Talamantes was home. She told the man no. Solis said the man, who is believed to be Jaylin’s biological mother’s boyfriend, tried opening the locked metal screen door, then started kicking it.

Solis said she locked herself in the apartment with her children, but the 25-year-old Daniel Escobar kicked the window and made his way inside. Solis and Escobar struggled for the child; he punched her and took Jaylin from her arms.

Escobar left the apartment with Jaylin through the broken window. Solis said she saw Jaylin’s mother, 23-year-old Monica Iglesias, standing outside of the apartment before she ran off toward the parking lot.

The three took off in a charcoal gray, four-door Ford F-150.

Escobar and Iglesias are from Borger, Texas.

Police spokesman Javier Sambrano said the department tried issuing a statewide Amber Alert, but was denied because because both parents have custody of the child.

An arrest warrant was issued for the arrest of Escobar and Iglesias late Wednesday night. Media and law enforcement statewide have been notified.

“As far as the kidnapping charges, since both parents have custody we technically can't charge her with kidnapping. So now they face charges of burglary of habitation, which is a felony,” said Sambrano.

Police describe Escobar as a Hispanic who is 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 230 pounds. He has dark hair and brown eyes. Escobar was last seen wearing a blue sweater with white and red stripes across the chest and blue jeans.

Police describe the mother, Iglesias,as a Hispanic who is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 110 pounds. She has dark hair and brown eyes. Iglesias was last seen wearing an orange shirt and blue jeans.

The abducted child is three-year-old Jaylin Marie Talamantes. The abducted child has brown hair and blue eyes. She is 3 feet tall and weighs 30 pounds.

Just wondering outloud here. I hope they find Jaylin safe and we find out what's really going on.

Amber Alert cancelled, 3-year-old abducted girl found

EL PASO -- Police have found a three-year-old girl taken forcibly from her father's apartment Wednesday afternoon.

Police said Jaylin Talamantes was abducted by her mother, 23-year-old Monica Iglesias, and her boyfriend, 25-year-old Daniel Escobar.

An "Amber Alert" was issued late Wednesday night. Police say Iglesias called to let them know she had the toddler and wanted to meet them at the Paso Del Norte Bridge.

Police say both Iglesias and Escobar have been arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation. Officials say the warrant was issued as a result of the actions to take the child from the residence of her father at 447 S. Schutz, police said.

Investigators said the child appears to be in good condition.

The news of the toddler's abduction brought back painful memories for the the family of Alejandra Flores. She was abducted from the Wal-Mart at Alameda and Zaragoza in 2002. Police later found her dead.

"It was very upsetting that the police department didn't call the Amber Alert as soon as they knew the little girl was abducted," said Perla Sanchez, Flores' aunt.

Sanchez said that it took five hours for the Amber Alert information to reach the airways, similar to the time it took for the alert to go into effect when Flores was abducted.

"It's a long time. In five hours [the abductors] could be in Mexico," said Sanchez. She said she had trouble going to sleep Wednesday night thinking where Iglesias could be.

Police Officials said they issued a local and regional Amber Alert as soon as possible. "Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world, we live and work in a real world ... [these alerts] takes time," EPPD Spokesman Chris Mears.

Mears said police never issued a state-wide Amber Alert for Iglesias because there are certain criteria that have to be met. "This case didn't meet those elements,or those requirements. Therefore, it was kept at the local and regional level."

Sanchez believes a state and nationwide alert should come immediately and without any requirements. "It brings back Alejandra's situation ... how she was abducted and everything ... It brings everything back."

I'm glad she's safe, and I agree with Sanchez. The Amber Alert has been shown to work, and should be issued immediately.

Thankfully, this child was returned unharmed, but it is just short of a miracle that this abduction didn't end tragically. Apparently policy and procedure need an immediate review.
