Thumbs up Kathy Lynn Hardrick, 38 MSG [FOUND SAFE] Since 12-18-07 from Clinton, MI

Macomb County deputies search for missing woman

Edward L. Cardenas and George Hunter / The Detroit News

CLINTON TOWNSHIP -- Macomb County sheriff's deputies are looking for a 38-year-old Lenox Township woman missing since Tuesday.

Kathy Lynn Hardrick, a part time employee of the Macomb County Head Start office in Clinton Township, last was seen there about 10 a.m. on Tuesday, according to sheriff's officials

She was heading to the Detroit Free Press in downtown Detroit to pick up books for the Head Start office, said Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel.

"She left her place of employment and that was the last time she was heard or seen from," Hackel said.

Hardrick's job involves delivering supplies to Head Start programs across the county, county spokesman Phil Frame said.

"We're very concerned about Kathy and her family, especially at this time of the year," Frame said. "We're hopeful she will be returned safely. We are doing everything we can to work with the sheriff's department to investigate this."

Hardrick has two children and lives in Lenox Township with her boyfriend and sister.

"They have been very cooperative," Hackel said.

The 1997 silver Plymouth Breeze Hardrick was driving also is missing. It has the Michigan license plate BFA8240. The car belongs to Hardrick's sister, Hackel said.

Hardrick is divorced but has a good relationship with her former husband, the sheriff said. Hackel said the case is being treated as a missing person incident right.

Hardrick is 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds. She is white with brown hair and eyes.

Missing Macomb woman, family reunite
Santiago Esparza / The Detroit News

Relatives of Kathy Lynn Hardrick, the missing Macomb Head Start employee who was reunited with her family this morning, are now working to help her and are thankful that she's now back home.

"As you know, Kathy has been found and is home safe," Hardrick's uncle, Mike Hennessey, said in a written statement today. "We wish to thank (Macomb) Sheriff (Mark) Hackel and his detectives who did such a wonderful job. And thanks to all who searched and prayed. What we seem to have here is our own 'It's A Wonderful Life' moment!

"Due to depression brought on by stress she became convinced we would be better off without her until she saw how hard we were searching and wanted her back. She wishes to apologize to everyone and is praying for all those who are missing loved ones today, that their outcome will be a happy one. Thank you all."

Hardrick, who had been missing since Tuesday, was reported back at home with her family this morning by Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel.

Hardrick, a 38-year-old Lenox Township resident, was seen about 10 a.m. Tuesday before contacting sheriff's officials overnight.

Hardrick, a part-time driver for the Head Start office, was on her way from Clinton Township to The Detroit Free Press to pick up books before she went missing. Hardrick was with acquaintances in Detroit and not in contact with her family, including two children.

Media attention about her absence led her to contact the authorities, Hackel said.

"She left on her own and did not realize there was a missing person report," Hackel said. "We convinced her to reunite with her family." He said the case now is closed.
