UPDATE: Police Fear Missing Homewood Mother in Danger
Homewood Police are investigating the disappearance of a mother who was last seen leaving work Monday. Published: November 5, 2008 HOMEWOOD, Ala. --- Homewood Police Detectives are concerned a mother missing since Monday could be in danger. Nadia Kersh failed to pick up her one year son from day care Monday evening and her car has been found abandoned in West Birmingham. The 23 year old single mom works as a cashier at the Tria Market where she was last seen leaving for her lunch break around 1:00 p.m. Monday. When she didn’t pick up her son police were called about an abandoned child at the ABC Day Care Center in Homewood that evening. Then after she failed to show up for work Tuesday morning and her employer could not reach her by phone they filed a missing person’s report with Homewood Police. Finally, Wednesday detectives learned Kersh’s convertible was discovered abandoned in West Birmingham Tuesday morning. “I have reason to believe she’s in danger based on the fact her vehicle was found abandoned and the child issue. So we’re concerned about her well-being,” Sergeant Doug Finch said Wednesday. Finch says Kersh has a squeaky clean record and so far they’ve found no physical evidence of foul play. Her son has been placed in the custody of the Alabama Department of Human Resources. If you have any information about Nadia Kersh’s location please call the Homewood Police Hotline at at 205-332-6262. http://www.nbc13.com/vtm/news/local/..._danger/45153/

Search For Missing Woman The search is on for a missing mother, who was last seen in Homewood. Co-workers say because of their friend's normal routine, the disappearance comes as a great surprise. "Very predictable, everyone knew she was at work everyday 8-5. I was really shocked," says co-worker Taylor Skellie. Shocked is the common word to describe 23-year old Nadia Kersh's disappearance. Kersh was last seen at Tria Market in Homewood where she works. James Clayborn is the restaurant manager who says, "Apparently she went away for lunch on Monday and hasn't come back yet." Then, when Kersh failed to pick up her child from daycare Monday afternoon, Homewood Police were called in. The young woman's abandoned vehicle was later found Tuesday at a west Birmingham location. For two years the mother of one has worked as a cashier at the local fresh foods market. "Very popular here among the guests, everyone here knows her." Regular customer Steve Watkins just found out the news, he says, "I'm just shocked. Always very friendly, always very helpful. I've seen her out in the neighborhood before. I'm shocked, I had no idea, I have no idea why she's missing, I just hope she's okay." Tonight her co-workers hope the same, as they wait for brighter news. If you have any information on Nadia Kersh's disappearance, please call Homewood Police at 332-6262. http://www.cbs42.com/news/local/33948079.html

Homewood Police Worry Young Mom is in Danger
http://www.nbc13.com/vtm/news/local/..._danger/45181/ By Jen Hale Reporter and weekend anchor Published: November 5, 2008 Homewood Police are looking for the missing mother of a one-year-old boy. 23-year-old Nadia Kersh disappeared Monday afternoon while on her lunch break from her job as a cashier at Tria Market in Homewood. Kersh never picked her son up from daycare Monday night. Tuesday, officers found her abandoned car in West Birmingham. Friends say Kersh is originally from Russia - adopted and brought to the U.S. as a child. They describe her as an independent, devoted mom who is the only support for her young son. “She goes to work sick. She’s always at work. She’s the only one who provides for Christopher,” says Shavawn Horton, Kersh’s best friend. When Kersh failed to pick her son up Monday, the Department of Human Resources placed him in state care. Horton says her heart sank when she got the news. “Something’s wrong. She wouldn’t leave Christopher like this,” says Horton. Horton says Wednesday, the court awarded her temporary guardianship of Kersh’s son. “Nadia’s like a sister to me. I couldn’t stand for him to be with a person he doesn’t know,” she says. Horton is vowing to protect and care for Kersh’s son - while fighting to bring her best friend home. Horton says she can’t imagine why anyone would hurt Kersh. “She has never met an enemy before. She trusts everybody she meets,” says Horton. As Horton holds Kersh’s son, she has a message for whoever knows where Kersh is now: “She needs to come back home because he needs her,” Horton pleads. If you have any information, call detectives at 205-332-6262.
