Default Skeletal remains with possible NC ties(Identified-Name Withheld) found in Pa. woods

Dec 28, 8:39 AM EST

SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) -- Police in western Pennsylvania are trying to identify the skeletal remains of a woman found in a wooded area who might have ties to North Carolina.

A resident found the remains on Wednesday near an industrial park in Somerset County, south of Pittsburgh.

Police believe the woman died in the summer. They say it appears she was a white woman between 30 and 40 years old. She was wearing a black jacket, white shirt and black jeans.

Police say evidence found at the scene indicates she was traveling and had been in Raleigh, N.C. Pennsylvania State Police have also contacted North Carolina authorities to see if the remains can be matched to any missing people.

This woman has been identified.
State police have identified the body of a woman discovered in a wooded area of Somerset County last month by tracing ownership of a grocery card found in a bag near the skeletal remains.
But police Tuesday refused to release the card owner's identity, citing a request of her family.
